Well, I know they don't mean much to us, nor do the Academy Awards for that matter...but if you care, here they are:

Marty Stuart, Kristin Wilkinson and Larry Paxton, "All the Pretty Horses"

Tan Dun, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"

    Maurice Jarre, "Sunshine"

    Ennio Morricone, "Malena"

    Rachel Portman, "Chocolat"

Hanz Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard, "Gladiator"

    Uhh, OK....quite a line-up.

Hum? No composers that I know much about. I guess Goldsmith won't be nominated when Oscar time comes around. Every Goldsmith Oscar nomination is preceded by a Golden Globe nomination. The same goes for Williams. Ohh well!

Trust me, Williams will be nominated for "The Patriot".

As far as the Golden Globes are concerned, they are way overblown (IHO). What do a bunch of foreign journalist know?

Does anyone have the full list of nominees? I'd like to see the rest

Well, Gladiator and Sunshine are good scores IMO.

I've heard loads of praise for Crouching Tiger...should I pick it up? Probably will.

Are Malena and Chocolat available? I heard about the former film on Italian TV. It's a film by Tornatore, the guy who made Cinema Paradiso and Legend of 1900.

    Here it is Crono.

    Golden Globe Nominations

I'm really happy to see Jessica Alba nominated for Dark Angel "Best Performance By An Actress In A TV Series Drama". Everyone seemed surprised by that! Next year I won't mine seeing Valarie Rae Miller (she plays Original Cindy) get nominated! I love her!

I really hate the Academy Awards and at least the Golden Globes nominates better films for the top categories. As for Score that is a diff. issue, but in everything else, GLobes are more trustworthy in my opinion. The foriegn guys usualy pic the better films/actors every year.

Tan Dun, John Williams and Rachel Portman will probably be nominated. After those three, I couldn't begin to imagine. I'd be shocked if Goldsmith was noticed for HOLLOW MAN, not that I consider that one of his better recent works (sorry Marian). I doubt the Academy nominators will notice the Jarre or Morricone scores (neither of which I've heard, by the way, and even if the Oscar guys ARE aware of the Morricone, they STILL failed to nominate him for THE LEGEND OF 1900 last year, so ...)

Zimmer and Gerrard are a good guess at a nomination for GLADIATOR ... but what about the OTHER music written by Klaus Bedelt? I think this one won't be nominated, somehow.

If nominated, the Oscar will probably go to Tan Dun, who will represent the "classy" vote, just as John Corigliano did when nominated for THE RED VIOLIN last year. (Nothing meant against Dun, whose score I haven't heard, nor Corigliano, whose RED VIOLIN was really splendid.)

My own pick remains Howard Shore's THE CELL, which hasn't a chance in hell of being noticed (if THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS picked up all five major Oscars, then why wasn't it even nominated for SCORE???? Even director Jonathan Demme has spoken of his debt to Shore's work. But Shore doesn't play the Oscar game, I guess, and neither do Carter Burwell or a bunch of others who are long overdue for recognition.)
