Topic: Release Of Chris Young's Score For "The Gift"?

Shaun Rutherford

Amidst all this bullsh*t about bootlegs, etc, why hasn't anybody mentioned anything about the new Christopher Young score, for Sam Raimi's The Gift? Is it going to be released? There's an album coming out in January on Will Records, but so far as I can see, there's no score on it.What's going on with The Gift?

I bet Varese will release it. Raimi likes to have music CDs with his movies, but if demand is there a score album will be released.--Kyp

Believe me Cryo/Krp, there will be a score release for this movie because this will be Sam Raimi's biggest and ambitious project to date since A Simple Plan two years ago, which recieved a ton of critical acclaim. The Gift shouldn't have that problem. The Will records album only has songs by the likes of Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. But Varese or Hollywood Records will release a score album soon after.

It's easy for somebody to guess that an album is coming out on Varese (as they've released several Chris Young titles in the past) or Hollywood Records (they've released several titles from Paramount films), but does anybody REALLY KNOW? I could guess that a score promo will be available from Intrada, but I was asking for actual evidence of a release on the horizon.Shaun

Young Shaun, you are so mean and angry. No wonder you are hated by all who listen to film music, especially producers of bootlegs. If you'd ask nicely, you'd probably get your answer.

Hello Dan."Am I that desperate for entertainment?"
What do you mean? I am testing the new search software, and did a search for our favorite Shaun Rutherford. I noticed the thread was unanswered, and jokingly posted to see how Shaun would react. I got my answer.
Strange curiousities, though. I don't know if I should be flattered or nervous.

Wait a minute! I am being muhjoshered here! My questions are being ignored.Dan, you say, "Sometimes things in life are a lot simpler and innocent than you may think."
Ok, but, I don't quite get it, so I ask again, what do you mean by "Am I that desperate for entertainment?"
It appears you may be reading into something, but I doubt it could be so complex.
I am beginning to get a little nervous!

Peter, go back and read what I posted. I didn't say you are ignoring my emails. You have a tendancy to write more than one sentence in your emails (nothing unusual) and so I (in the past) had asked multiple questions. You would then reply with an answer to ONE of them, and then ignore the rest.
I was merely referring to that.
I'm glad you don't like dishonesty; I don't like people putting words in my mouth.

It's not a strong hatred toward you, Dan. I just don't understand why you have to be so persnickety (see also "anal") about this site and its members. When reading your posts, you give off this air of "I'm better than you" and it bugs me. Of course, that's my opinion. Others might see you as the supreme being of filmmusic. I'm just one of the people who knows what's going on.

Hmmm.Hopefully, dealing with you professionally will never be an option.
It's weird that I when I wrote one near-nasty thing about Dan at a message board, I received hoards of emails from people who dislike him, and they all have funny stories to tell! It's because of these stories that I always read his posts in the "I'm better than you" tone.

"Hopefully, dealing with you professionally will never be an option."Nice attitude. Between you and Peter, I guess there's just no room for any form of reconciliation and "peace". Oh well. It's not like I haven't tried.
Have you considered for a moment, Shaun, that if you ONLY got emails from people who disliked me, that all of the stories would
be rather biased against me?I'm sure if all I read was pro-Nazi propoganda (for instance), I'd feel the Nazi's were nice people. But that's the difference between you and me. I'm willing to see both sides to an issue (well, I TRY to see both sides).
But I suppose you're just happy with your one-sided ignorant biased viewpoint of me. Again, I refer you to the time where we used to chat on rather friendly terms. You never did say what I did to piss you off; it couldn't have been my "persnickety" attitude, which I (apparently) have always had.
So what WAS it that pissed you off so much?

"If I come across as knowing more, well, just maybe it's because I do. If it's with a hint of arrogance, well, what can ya do."I've asked time and again for people to check their ego and arrogance at the door. If one doesn't want to, they are not welcome here, and will eventually get a clue.
Nobody here is any more important than anyone else, and that includes everyone. This is exactly the reason I ask everyone to treat each other just as they would like to be treated. Be cool to people, they will certainly be cool back to you.
Admitting you know more than everyone here is not cool, man. It's not cool. This message board was not created to praise the people with the most knowledge. This board exists to encourage the fellowship of all people who love to listen to film music. When people come in here and say "I know more than you," the trust in fellowship is broken.

I for one have actually 'dealt' with Dan professionally on a few occasions... and I don't see or hear the problems you have. At all. Dan's a nice guy. Knowledgable. On some issues, he knows more than me. On others, I know more than him. And I think we're both okay with that.
It's really great to see someone old enough to type who enjoys talking sh*t about someone behind their backs. Very nice. It brings me back to the good old days... ah, grade school.

My quote should have been amended to read:
"......it's because of these stories that I am ABLE to read his posts in the 'I'm better than you' tone."Big Bear, it's clear that your bias toward Dan is because you are friends. The fact that you two can get along while each knowing things the other does not is admirable.
When the search function comes up, read some of Dan's posts and tell me that he's not being a bit of a pompous name-dropper.
"It's really great to see someone old enough to type who enjoys talking sh*t about someone behind their backs. Very nice. It brings me back to the good old days... ah, grade school."Maybe when I'm 26 or so, I'll be able to understand what you meant by that, as I'm clearly not talking "behind his back". In "internet terms", if I were doing that, I'd be posting under a phony name to disguise the fact that I actually work in the very same building as Dan. Dan and I are right here in this thread, so nothing was written without his knowledge.
Anyway, to end this post on a somewhat positive note, I want to point out that myself and Mr. Bear agree on at least one thing: that Sony seriously f*cked us over with their "Ultimate Edition" of The Phantom Menace. So, even though we are having something of an argument right now, there are things that we see eye to eye on.
Ah. Peace.

Come on Peter. You know that there are plenty of people here who know more than other people (etc.) Chris Neel said he's from the MGM Music Department. He obviously knows more about MGM music than anyone else here, and if he said just as much, I doubt you'd give him as much of a hassle as you would me.
Look, I'm not saying I know more than ANYBODY, but if you're trying to convince yourself (and others) that I DON'T know more than some people here, you're kidding yourself.
I'm not going to "turn off" my knowledge just to meet your level of expectation.

To answer your question honestly, Dan, I can't remember what it was that "set me against" you. I'm in a relatively good mood right now, so when I snap out of it, I'll let you know.Regarding my "generally rude manner", most people here should know that most everything I say is meant out of love. It's a film music fan's equivalent to trading "your mom" jokes. It's a comfortability with the members on this board. For instance, when I call JJH an "ass", obviously I'm kidding and JJ knows that I'm kidding. When I call all Zimmer's fans "brain dead", I'm kidding and Zimmer's fans should (SHOULD!) know that I am kidding.
As I say constantly in an effort to reference Monty Python, we're all individuals here (I'm not). At times some of you get on my nerves, but I get on peoples' nerves constantly (as clearly evidenced in this thread), so it's an even trade.
It is hard to write about being negative when I'm in such a good mood. I will refrain from further comment until I am good and liquored up.
NOTE: If I return to this thread, only to write things like, "I love you guys and this is the best thing that's ever happened to me, you guys you guys.....hey....you know who was the Walrus? Dude, Boba Fett.......you guys are funny.......oh, I've just wet myself.........", just totally disregard it.
