After listen to Elfman's Proof of Life. I was put in the mood for scores with South American influences. Spanish guitars and woodwinds etc.
I've already thought of Medicene Man and Under Fire and Zorro, what are some others?

NP- Proof of Life (Daniel Richard Elfman) **/*****

Jerry Goldsmith's 100 RIFLES is phenomenal, crazy, thrilling stuff in that very vein. So is his EXTREME PREJUDICE, although that might be synth-heavier than what you're after; nonetheless, one of his very best action scores.

Perhaps Alex North's VIVA ZAPATA? (Although I've not heard it, Goldsmith recently conducted it for Varese, and I've read many a rave about that score.)

I'd also suggest STATE OF SIEGE, by Mikis Theodorakis. I have it on LP, but I think I've also seen a CD release, perhaps coupled with another Theodorakis score.

Probably difficult to find now, but James Horner's VIBES and WHERE THE RIVER RUNS BLACK have some very interesting stuff on em. Both more quiet, reflective scores than much of what he was doing at the time.

    Thanks guys for the recomendations.
Hm, so this style seems to be in alot of older scores....I've been looking in the wrong spot.

    "Hm nobody mentioned Isham's Galapagos."

Oh and one more thing. Was Under Fire ever re-released? I can't find it.

Oh Duh! I forgot about MI:2

The Old Man And The Sea (Bruce Broughton)

This is an excellent (though difficult to find, OOP) score with a strong Cuban influence... one of my favorites from Mr. Broughton.
Intrada should rerelease this one for sure!

Tim, Alive had about two seconds worth of pan-flute on the album. There's more in the movie for sure. If any score needs to be re-released in expanded format, I would vote for this one.

It's a German release, maybe that's the reason why you can't find it. It seems to be at least available in England, too.

    You could also try http://www.amazon.de

I agree with PeterK. "Alive" really needs an expanded release. For cryin' out loud, the rescue finale, the most important scene and best piece of score in the film, isn't even on the album!

Ugh... way to screw it up Hollywood Records!

Al, I'd have to say the same goes for Vertical Limit....right after the nitro is used to get through the ice at the end; and I thought soundtracks were supposed to consist of key scenes from a film (...well, mostly).

Peter K is right there's a ton of South American music from Alive left off the album, which is unbelievely short. There is a latin tango in the scene where Nicholas Cage in John Travolta's body is about to diffuse the bomb he planted. it last bout a few seconds or so and some of Nic Cage's theme renders on latin influences. Too bad most of it wasn't included on the album. Damn shame.

I'm not the biggest Howard fan, but I did buy ALIVE, largely for that one cue Al mentions above: the beautiful rescue music! WHICH, OF COURSE, ISN'T THERE!

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

NP: BABY (end title as heard on the Jerry Goldsmith SPFM tribute CD ... finally signed by the man himself six and a half years after the fact in Detroit ... worth the wait)
