Just watched The Thin Red Line. I was wondering if the soundtrack CD features the best of the score? Score in the film was excellent.

TTRL's score release contains most of the major cues. I've heard that Hans Zimmer composed much more music than that, but was limited to the one release.

That said, most of the best parts, especially Track # 3, "Journey to the Line", are included. There might have been some editing and juggling, but someone else can check that out.

    By all means, get it!

Most of the great music is on the CD.

However, I remember a particular scene when the 2 soldiers are playing with the kids in the village, before they sight the ship, where there is a lovely orchestral version of the 'God Tu Lekem Laef Blong..' (whatever)theme. It was lovely, but sadly only the short choral version is on the CD.

    Still an exquisite CD, however.

There's also a nice compilation of other native choral pieces on the DVD.

Don't know if you've picked this one up, but there is a CD of Melanisian Choir songs from 'The Thin Red Line', which does have the hymn featured in the previews, in addition to a slower version of that same hymn. The CD is a decent companion to the "Thin Red Line" soundtrack, but not an essential one. It's good, if you like that "world music" genre.

Quickly, here's a Napster reference for looking up these choir pieces.

Melanesian Choirs: The Blessed Islands - Chants from 'The Thin Red Line'

I believe the Titles were mislabled, but here's what you should look for

    Song Titles:

Track 1 - "Jisas yu holem hand blong mi" (1:21) (Preview song - there is another song--same title, different version--on the CD, track 22, length 1:53.)

    Track 23 - "Pray for Us" (2:43)
(Same tune, same words. Slower, "older" voices--more barritone.)

The Melanisian Choir CD is really good if you're into the film's chant songs. I actually opted for this instead of the OST. It's really good.

Malcolm Arnold's score is great...what more would you expect from one of the 20th century's great composers!

I'm not a big fan of Zimmer's (not by a long way) but I have to say that this score is great, much better by far than his misplaced Gladiator...it hits ...it misses ...it hits ...it misses ...what a mess!!
