I have a question about the content of the liner notes on the recent 2CD Rhino SUPERMAN.

I found this for $9.99 over the weekend and couldn't resist picking it up. I was amazed to find that both cd's were in the box for that price, but the cover sleeve and notes were not to be found! I figured that they would be in the jewel sleeve, but looking at the sealed version in a store the next day, it looks like the book was seperate from the jewel case....SO...

How are the notes on this one? Am I missing anything groundbreaking? Are the notes available online anywhere? Are they different than the article FSM ran a few months ago? Any help is greatly appreciated!

NP:Superman Deluxe! Awesome, blows away the old issue, and gave me a new appreciation for this score.
Although the march still isn't the best thing that JW has written

Hey Sean! Cool, that you got this music. Especially at that price. However, maybe it's just me. Though the liners are great, it's not that they are really needed. I mean, I read liners once, and that's about it. So, unless you are absolutely nuts about them, it is not much a problem!

I will even give you mine, if you want them!

Take care! And enjoy the music!

    Regards,
    Sean Robert Abbey

    Hi, Sean(s),

It seems here in England EVERY copy of Superman is missing the notes. They're only in the USA import version. I bought the CD for half price in HMV, which was great, but then discovered the notes were conspicuous by their absence. I e-mailed Rhino and complained (nicely) and they were good enough to send me a spare copy of the notes for free.

Thanks everyone for the info on this...

Sean, if you don't want em' Ill corral those notes! It's your call of course..I've managed to find some cool things online about the reissue though.
It was a great buy at that price!!

For the record, I'm a liner note maniac and read even the most poorly written ones all the time...but I prefer when they are informative and literate!

    Ciao,
    Sean

No problem! If I can locate the booklet, I will send it to you, when I send the CD' later this week.

You don't have Farscape or Turbulence 2, I hope!

The liner notes are good but not as technical as the Star Wars ones written by Mattessino.

The liner notes (by Michael Matessino) are informative and well written, and the booklet has some nice pictures, but it is really no big deal if you do not have them. However, I somehow find it odd that some issues are missing them? I mean, used issues, okay, maybe they're lost or something, but new ones? Small hint: since the liner notes are too big for a regular jewel case they are slipped next to the case in the cardboard box. Even when you find a sealed CD, you should be able to see whether or not the notes are there.

I think the Rhino Superman notes are the best I've ever seen. They are available online, at:

    http://rhino.com/features/liners/75874lin.html

But the pictures are not included. Still, at $9.99, you got a super deal.

Here's a link to an interesting comparison of the Rhino set versus the 1998 Varese Sarabande recording:
