Oh God, this is impossible, but the first one that popped into my mind was "Main Title and Klingon Battle" from STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE. I could easily rattle off several dozen more without even looking at the jewel boxes. "No Escape" (PLANET OF THE APES), "Main Title" (CAPRICORN ONE, one of the most influential pieces of film music ever written), "Survival" (PAPILLON), "Over The Cliff" (FIRST BLOOD), etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

How 'bout "Swing Away" from MR. BASEBALL?

Jeron, if you look at the sheet music for that cue, Goldsmith did NOT write "**** " on the page, so it is NOT part of the cue!

    Play by the rules, whippersnapper....

Thanks, Sean and Joan, for putting in a word for fogeydom.

If I had to pick a cue that nobody has mentioned yet, it would be the main titles for THE CHAIRMAN. The way it begins with a whisper and gradually builds into a loud and rousing oriental march is as thrilling to me today as when I first caught the flick on TV.

Cole, I thought Escape From The Planet of the Apes was the coolest thing I'd ever heard when I was 14. Still do - I have three different CDs of the darn thing. Personally I can't get enough of Goldsmith's 70s electric guitar/drum kit/orchestra sound. Now if only Prometheus had succeeded in putting out Shamus along with Police Story ... *sigh* ... I'd be in hog heaven.

I've only seen one mention of "The Wind and the Lion" -- one of the most incredible scores EVER written by anyone.

I'm partial to "Raisuli Attacks" as one of his finest compositions....simply magnificent exercise in rhythms, use of brass and percussion...and then the strings...all in a violent whirlwind of vibrant color.

From "The Boys from Brazil," virtually any of that score is one of his finest moments.

And from "The Blue Max," the exciting, rousing, unbelievale "The Attack (Parts I and II).

    Explorers

It is a cue that has not been released off of the movie Explorers. Kinda of a bad flic with a great score by Jerry.

When Dick Miller the helicopter pilot. I guess it is his theme, it is quite nice.

I would love to have that theme.

Star Trek: First Contact When The Enterprise is firing upon the spaceship that is about to go into hyperspace. The music there is excellent. Pure Goldsmith.

That wasn't Joel, was it Wedge? "Flight of the Phoenix" is the cue I think Samanthasmom was referring to.

Yes, it WAS "Flight of the Phoenix" and yes it WAS Joel Goldsmith. Sorry to be the one to break the news to you. If you want proof, see Jeff Bond's "The Music of Star Trek."

While there are many that fall just short of Mr. Goldsmith's most impassioned cue of music, I am left with one cue--one exquisite cue that by its end, simply finds me forever suspended in the world of fantasy and contentment in which it put me:

    "Re-United" from LEGEND.

Wedge, I believe ya. "Flight of the Phoenix" is one of my favorite cues. I'm impressed to hear that Joel composed this, as it gives us "Jerry" fans a small sliver of hope to hang on to after Goldsmith senior kicks the dust. BUT, enough morbidity. That's a moment I'm not particularly looking forward to. As for "Phoenix" by Joel? Very cool. Now, if GNP will release some of this stuff on the next "Best of" installation, we'll be set.

There are too many for me to even think of mentioning. There are several cues from Night Crossing, Lionheart, Poltergeist, ST:TMP, Alien, The Blue Max, Star Trek V, Total Recall, The Wind & the Lion and The Final Conflict that I could pick and that's not even a beginning to the many great cues Jerry has written. So I will just make this my excuse and not answer.

I've got those LPs too! And many more! For all the good they do me.

Any given cue from THE WIND AND THE LION.
Or PATTON. Or LIONHEART. Or (etc. etc. etc.)
    "Bumps and Hollows" (LEGEND)
"Main Title" (REINCARNATION OF PETER PROUD)
    "Us Was You" (MAGIC)
    "The Rescue" (BABY)

I was pleased to see the references to EXPLORERS and ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE APES above. ESCAPE is actually the first time I set out to MEMORIZE Goldsmith's name (I'm bad with names.) I treasured my off-the-TV audio tapes of that one for years.

Any given cue from THE SWARM.
    "The Theme from CHINATOWN."
    "Bloody Christmas" (L.A. CONFIDENTIAL)
    "O.R. 8" (COMA)
    "The Salt Flats" (WARLOCK)

    hmmm ...

RUDY. THE MUMMY. KING SOLOMON'S MINES. THE BLUE MAX. THE SAND PEBBLES. 100 RIFLES. EXTREME PREJUDICE. THE WALTONS. VOYAGER. Where do I start? Where do I stop?

What did I say before? This is an impossible question! But it makes me all nice and tingly with nostalgia ...

Jeron: Actually, I was thinking BITES. BITES the dust, KICKS the bucket. Kick the dust implies frustration as opposed to accellerated mortality, and I don't KNOW what "biting the bucket" would mean.

See what happens when you mix metaphors?

Am I the only person who prefers The Hunt to No Escape then (talking PotA here). Anyway, I've got my gunpoint answer:
    Retreat (The Blue Max)

But I'd probably change my mind in a day or two.

    np The Blue Max

Gee, that's a hard question! I have 30 + Goldsmith soundtrack and I know that that is the tip of the Goldsmith iceberg! I can't really pick what is my single favorite cue. I guess I would have to pick the Main Title from Star Trek: First Contact. There is something about that cue that is different from any thing else I have heard from Goldsmith. It's not heroic and I don't think that its a theme for anything other than the movie itself. It seems to have a sense of emotional restaint yet at the same time it has the ability to make you cry. It to me is Goldsmith's best cue!

Pete, "The Hunt" is my favourite track from PotA, too, simply because it's the most listenable. I admire the score, but find it difficult to play the CD - just like with Alien³.

NP: Moby Dick (Christopher Gordon) - Awesome!
