Just wonderig which score I should get? I have about 120.00 to spare on my first credit card!! Or I could just pay off Columbia House! No, I'd rather have some more CD's. I think I'll stick to getting ones I have wanted for awhile, rather than getting any new ones.
How about Last of the Dogmen?I am also looking for Balto, but I know that is out of print.
Here is one I would probably sell all my CD's for:
THE SCOUT THE SCOUT THE SCOUT THE SCOUT THE SCOUT THE SCOUT THE SCOUT

While the themes to both Home Alone scores are the same I would recommend Home Alone 2 because it contains more of the score than the album for the first movie did. The first movie has 6 Christmas songs (3 are traditional ones arranged by Williams) by various artists thrown on there as well. Plus the score for the second film is a little more action oriented. It also contains a wonderful Christmas song by Williams called "Merry Christmas Merry Christmas" with lyrics by Leslie Bricusse.[Message edited by Mark Olivarez on 12-06-2000]

I have them both, but if you have to pick, DEFINITELY go with "Home Alone 2" ... almost all the score from the original album is there, plus new themes and motifs, AND new original Williams' carols. So if it comes down to one or the other, #2 is the way to go.

I haven't heard the second one, but definitely get Home Alone! However, I've basically heard that Home Alone 2 is more or less a rehash of the first title.

Home Alone 2 is a reworking of all the thematic elements that were created for the first... plus new themes and an added dash of "Christmasy cheer." I think both are worth having. Home Alone 2 is a slightly different interpretation of the same core material, with extra fluff to make the two scores different enough to enjoy together! How's THAT for a sentence?

Get them both! While Home Alone 2 does have all the themes from Home Alone represented here they are differently orchestrated (on the most part) and some are even more developed than in the first film. The second score is also slightly darker than the first but they really go together like bread and butter. Also do get Last of the Dogmen, an incredible score by Arnold. Really, one of the best of the best.

Get BOTH! When I got Home Alone 2, I was disappointed at first because so much music was similar to the first score (like with Omen 2). But then I realized there's so much great new stuff on it, too. Definitely get both!Little side note: Somewhere in my Memory was nominated for an Academy Award as best song. To me, it's just the usual rather cheesy Williams children song. They should have chosen Star of Bethlehem, not THAT's a masterpiece!

Just a couple of other questions. Does the Carol of the Bells song on the first one have words? Does it have the children's choir song where Maculy visits the church?
And on the second one, all I remember of a song I really liked is that it was nightime, Maculy was in some kind of a rush, he ran around a corner. Maybe I should watch the movie again!
Here is a list of soundtracks I think I'll get:
Home Alone 2
The Haunting
Last of the Mohicans
Last of the Dogmen
Land Before Time
Or I can get both Home Alones, but I would have to void one of the other soundtracks. I have already had Last of the Mohicans and The Haunting, but I traded those off for a CDR's of Buffy. Maybe I will wait to get The Haunting.........

Carol of the Bells does have the chorus (at one point, one of the kids sings a horribly wrong note

Sheila, drop "The Haunting." I'm a fan of that score, but if it's "get the Haunting or both HA scores," you'd be better off getting both HA scores. Pick up the JG at a later date. Besides, you've already heard it - so you know what you'll be missing!BTW, great decision adding Dogmen to your list. You will absolutely not be dissappointed. It's a personal favorite of mine (for a couple very special reasons!).

Sheila! I just ordered Home Alone and Land Before Time to be given as presents for some of my nieces and nephews. I don't think you'll be disappointed with either of these, as they really are full of spirit.NP - "A Room for Romeo Brass"

Home Alone 2 is just a re-slash of Home Alone 1. They are both equal I believe. I would get Home Alone, but Home Alone 2 has some good parts...-Racerprose

Thanks for all your replies. I am going to get both scores. Land Before Time is one I have been wanting since I heard a girl singing it on the schoolbus about 6 years ago! I still welcome any suggestions.........

During the first two listens, you only hear the old stuff, but then you realize that 50% of the score is new and great.

Ole'Today my family puts up the Christmas tree, crib and decorations. We always put on some great christmassy music.
This year I've got Home Alone, which fits the bill perfectly.
(or should I say - "cuts the cheese perfectly" instead...
