I was listening to Empire on the way to work and began thinking.

If you were only given one Star Wars score to listen to for the rest of your life, which one would it be?
For me, definately Empire. And I have a feeling that'll be the most popular. So how about it.

As much as I love TESB, I think I'd take ROTJ- because it's a great score in its own rite, a continuation of the themes and ideas in TESB, and even reprises some of ANH's material in the end- so it's somewhat of a Star Wars compilation album... I guess...

I'm with you on Empire Sebulba...while I love brooding choral work at the end of ROTJ, I was never too fond of the other new themes introduced.

For me the score that originated the Imperial March, Yoda's Theme, and the Asteroid Field is by far the best.

    ESB for me.

While I agree that ROTJ is one powerhouse of a score, I'm not too fond of the Ewoks' and Jabba's themes. The music from the Sarlacc pit would, however, be sorely missed.

I choose ESB becuase as already mentioned there is the appearance of great new themes, plus the lovely Cloud city music, and the last track - Rebel Fleet/End Title, which I adore as a whole. Add to that the Love theme's various mentions and the music of the Carbon Freezing sequence and the X-Wing raising sequence, and I'm a happy guy.

I must mention that Phantom Menace would have to come second, and closing. I've been listening to it all the time recently, and am loving it more very day. Sure, there's no Imperial March but the new themes work well, and are quite numerous. The many statements of the force theme are also great.

But I think the main plus point is the great music Williams uses to score one-off happenings - such as Anakin winning, Flag Parade, War Plans, Arrival at Coruscant, the Funeral, the Podracer being switched on etc.

I think the action music is great too, with the Duel of the Fates as a backbone. Great stuff. A decent end credits suite is greatly missed.

    Over and out.

I have listened to all of the scores for years (in various forms and revisions), and I must say I agree with Sebulba: ESB is the one I'd listen to.

My GOD!! How can you not like "Parade of the Ewoks!"

I'm definately a Return of the Jedi fan. So much that in fact I'm not too lazy to type the entire title, LOL

It would be a tie between Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi.

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK is simple one of the best scores (if not the best) ever writen for a motion picture!

I'm with those of you who are going with Return of the Jedi. Unlike most, I enjoyed the Ewoks' theme. "The Forest Battle" is one of my all-time favorites from John Williams. Jabba's theme is just plain fun. The Emporer's theme is abundant throughout - and there is plenty of other material (as Tim mentioned) from ANH and ESB. I always enjoyed the classic "Ewok Celebration" ending - but the new piece which replaced it (for the SE version) is breathtaking.

ESB comes in close behind, but ultimately (for me), it would definitely be Return of the Jedi.

I get tears in my eyes only THINKING about it!

Star Wars: Main Title, Rebel Blockade Runner, Jawa Sandcrawler, Binary Sunset!, Cantina Bands, The Death Star, The Trash Compactor, Ben Kenobi's Death/TIE Fighter Attack, The Battle of Yavin, The Throne Room/End Title...

Empire: The Battle of Hoth, The Asteroid Field, The Imperial March (especially the brassy rendition that was replaced with the concert suite in the film), Hyperspace, Rebel Fleet, End Titles...

Jedi: The Dark Side Beckons, Light of the Force (original version), Approaching the Death Star, Shuttle Tydirium Approaches Endor, The Levitation, The Emperor's Death, Superstructure Chase/Darth Vader's Death/The Main Reactor...

Phantom Menace: Duel of the Fates, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan rescute the Queen, Escape from Naboo, Anakin Defeats Sebulba, Anakin is Fre, Qui-Gon and Darth Maul Meet, Anakin and Group to Coruscant, The Tide Turns, End Credits (the little modification in the familiar part, right before DotF is so wonderful!), the Battle Droid march...
