"The much-anticipated composer of JP3 has been announced.. Don Davis will be filling John Williams' shoes on the third movie"

A change of plans? Don Davis?
    I prefer Horner.

I've read an interview with Don Davis not too long ago. He really respects and admires Williams a lot. So I think he may do a pretty good job with this. I would say he probably is the better candidate.

    Just my opinion...

It’s a tough call. A potential stinker like this certainly won't stain Horner's ability to get work, but could make it tough on Davis to acquire a prestige project.

However, if the film works and the music's good, there is no way that TPTB (The Powers That Be) can overlook Don Davis in the future!

So I guess, Don Davis should go for it. If House on Haunted Hill and the Matrix are indicators, he definitely has the chops to pull it off.

It's tricky. He has to strike a balance between a voice that is totally his own and still tie back thematically to the first two films. Hope he makes it!

Don Davis? Wow. I only know his Matrix, but that alone makes me get thrilled thinking of a JP score by him.

His "Warriors of Virtue" score sounds very much like a Horner score. I think it even includes that evil motif used by Horner so many times. ANyway, if it's really Don Davis, the people who prefered Horner should be happy because they can sure sound a like at times.

I'll accept either of the two composers. No problems here.

Don Davis has orchestrated many scores for James Horner so I suppose it is only natural that they share some similarities as they both have the same orchestrator, Don Davis!.

An interesting story about Don Davis. He said that when he was working for Horner, he could do anything else. Because James Horner apparently insisted that he be available at all times, whenever Horner felt like working. This meant that Don Davis could accept no other work.

I think Don Davis is an excellent choice. I agree with Lee: "Warriors of Virtue" belongs among the ranks of such scores as "Cutthroat Island" and "Stargate." Those are big, bombastic masses of thematic excitement. If Davis approaches JP3 in any way, shape, or form similar to "Warriors," I'm almost positive it'll be a knock out effort. Especially if he's encouraged to use Williams' original themes. Lee mentioned that Davis composes with a Horneresque sound. Note: he also sounds a bit like David Arnold (this is evident in the cue from "Warriors," - titled "Forces of Nature"). I think the possibilities with Don Davis are endless - and while we may try to second guess his approach, he may very well wind up surprising us all in a very positive way. Let's hope!

Ah, good. I'm glad to see that Horner isn't going to get this one...

... and I think I'm going to have to pick up Warriors of Virtue, too. I've been listening to the sound clips on Davis' web page and it sounds like a fantastic score.

If you decide to purchase this fantastic score, make sure you buy the Prometheus CD instead of the song/score version. The score only ablum comes out to roughly 72 minutes in length and it's an enjoyable listen throughout. Highly recommended!

While I love Horner, I suppose this news isn't too bad. Of course, this news is just speculation and rumor; I'll wait for a confirmation...

sorry, but if The Matrix couldn't persuade you of the man's ability to compose, then nothing will.

I say that because, to do what he did with Matrix, you have to know all the rules to be able to break them successfully, as occured for that film. nothing like a solid grounding in the basics (I refer you to Arnold Schoenberg).

I dunno. I think JP3 will be a cheesy sequel which should not be made. TLW was kinda comic book like (T-Rex terrorizing the city, Godzilla spoofs, loads of dinos, etc.).

Some people should know when to stop. Anyway, I am being prejudice over something that I have not seen, but I personally would not be looking forward for this movie.

As for Davis, let's just hope he can come close (or perhaps surpass?) to Williams. And from my opinion, David Arnold's work do sound a bit like Williams'.

This is fantastic news! I hope it's more than just a rumor. While I was curious to see what Horner would come up with for JP3, I'm about 20x more intrigued with what Davis is going to do. I'll be very surprised if Davis writes anything less than a stellar film score. I'm glad that the music for the third Jurassic Park has a much stronger possibility of having some artistic integrity now- although Davis does have quite the knack for ripping ideas from famous classical pieces. (listen to the Strauss, Holst, Stravinsky, and Dukas references in Warriors of Virtue...) Still, he's smart enough of a composer to know he can't rip off entire passages from Gayne or Schumann's Third note-for-note...

SoundtrackNet has CONFIRMED with Don Davis himself that he will indeed be scoring Jurassic Park III.

As he pointed out, James Horner was NEVER signed to the project - people just assumed he was.

Cool. Now that we know it's confirmed, I think this is great news. I'm not sure how the movie will turn out, but I think Davis could compose a great score. I was looking forward to seeing how Horner would handle it, but I don't mind at all that it's now in the hands of Davis.

According to John Williams Central, Williams himself recommended Davis, that´s what I understand.
