... to me!I have now been posting on this Board for precisely a year. (I'd hoped to time the anniversary with my 3000th message, but time does not permit until my regular machine is back up.)
It was my original Board Friend, Chris Kinsinger, whom I first "met" in July 1998, who encouraged me to appear here in the first place, to answer someone's question about music for Akira Kurosawa movies. I haven't left since.
In what has been a most trying year for me, I have discovered here considerable community, solace, wit and wisdom. As well, and against all expectations, I have found some real (however virtual) friends: in no particular order: Mark Hatfield, Joan Hue, Shaun Rutherford, Marian Schedenig, Howard L, Wedge, Jeron, vulcantouch, Michael Ware, Andre Lux, Lou Goldberg, "Dutch," Thor Joachim Haga (LOVED yer FSM letter, Thor
), Jim Figurski (well, I'd met him already), Tom Scofield (WHERE DID YOU GO, THOMAS?) and a host of others (please, whoever, don't yell at me if I left you out, I've only got a few minutes at the library to type this.)Also a particular nod to three fellows I've never introduced myself directly to, but ought to, since they always write nice things about me
Mark Olivarez, Patrick Charben, and Nicolai P. Zwar. And a special thanks to the K, with whose methods I do not always agree (banning the Touch, I still believe, was a serious mistake), but who has, at least, helped give a setting this familial atmosphere I have come to treasure. It may be a virtual home, but to me, as with a summer cottage or winter retreat, it remains a home.
My best to you all as Christmas onrushes. Wish me well, I'm up for a pretty decent job come Tuesday morning.
most sincerely,
H.

Break a leg, Hank.
A totally fine place Pete has put together here. People are, for the most part, civil and friendly and there exists an atmosphere where it is possible for a friendly exchange of ideas.posted 11-25-2000 03:33 PM PT (US)

Long live Hank, Rocco, His H'ness, and all the other names you've got!
Even though your house is haunted, and your roommate may shock you with some spiders from time to time.

Happy Anniversary, H’ness. Crossing all my fingers and toes for
your possible job next Tuesday. (I’m assuming neither you nor Marian
would ever enter the occupation of Exterminator.
)So when will your home computer be hooked up? These library trips
must be a bummer.Celebrate tonight! Rent a Ifukube scored Godzilla movie.

"Encouraged?"
ENCOURAGED???More like harassed, annoyed, harangued...between you and Howard, I'm not certain which one was the most difficult to get to jump over the fence!
AH! But then I found that poor, poor soul who needed an answer to an Ifukube question!
Rocco swallowed the bait, and the rest is history!

No offence to Peter, but a Message Board is only as good as its members, and H Rocco is one of the best.Despite the impersonal nature of an internet message board, those qualities that make Rocco perhaps the most popular board member have become obvious to us all – these being a sense of humour, tolerance, tact, moderation, a good nature and a genuine love of film music.
Long may you continue to grace the Message Board.

As soon as I knocked out that message, I had only to get back to the apartment before I realized HOW MANY NAMES I LEFT OUT!The Timchanter, obviously. Brad Wills, a real gentleman; the estimable Captain James; the always interesting MW Ruger; the increasingly elusive Mr. InSanDiego (formerly Sheriff Joe); and dammit, I didn't bring the list with me, so again some names will have to go wanting.
I'm at the Main Library in Fort Lauderdale typing this (WHEN can I afford phone service again? It's driving me nuts, but there's SOME good news to report: my typing speed is now 98.1 WPM (previous record was 94), and an imbecile could have passed the written test. This may be the one! (Two weeks till I'm likely to hear anything, though. I may well be reduced to working at the Pizza Hut.
Although there's another check or two in the pipeline ...)Mr. 2: I never thought of myself as "the most popular message board member," merely and accidentally the most prolific, but I am suitably flattered by the characterization. You're pretty damn popular in yer OWN way, ya know ...

P.S. Christopher, remember, someone was asking about SEVEN SAMURAI, not Ifukube, although it didn't take long before I went off on THAT topic, did it.
