Hi, guys! Just wanted to share with everyone that one of Philippe Sarde's greatest scores is finally available on CD from Universal France. If you own one Sarde album, it should be Tess. No, scratch that. If you own one Sarde album, it should be Quest For Fire but if you want to own two Sarde albums, you must own Tess. It has a beautiful theme for Tess that will stay with you, as well as some lush orchestrations. Seek it out! It's coupled with his score for another Roman Polanski film, The Tenant. Packaging is top-notch, with notes by Sarde and beautiful stills from Tess.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WOW!
Tess is a MASTERPIECE score, a real gem, something a lot of people have wanted to see on CD for a long time. Like me. I can't recommend this one highly enough. There goes my wallet but who cares. To finally replace my tired worn out LP...Life is good when this sort of thing happens. Thank you O Soundtrack Suppliers, I'll relight the lamps in the temple, my faith in you is renewed...
Having The Tenent is a plus--one strange creepy film that one, an odd pair for one CD. And sorry, if you had to own one Sarde it would be this--Quest For Fire doesn't really come close IMHO.

Ghost Story is terrific... And I seem to recall the album having a female soprano that I couldn't hear in the film. Or maybe you could hear in the film but I was too busy looking at Alice Krige... Kapow!
The exciting thing about this release of Tess is that it appears that the European album master was used. It's 8 minutes longer than the version released in this country by MCA.posted 11-23-2000 10:57 AM PT (US)

I liked the mix on the Euro-Tess better than on the MCA, though having both was interesting. I suppose the "pop" version of the Tess theme is off the CD then. How long does the whole thing run and what is the cost, s'il vous plait?

The MCA Tess ran 29 minutes and change, as I recall, so there's definitely more music on here. The Tenant is... 21:07. The entire disc is 58:25.

Picked up Tess/Tenant yesterday and yes, there's plenty of new (to Americans) music on the disc. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous.

Personally, the "pop" cue of the love theme that opens the old album became a surprise favorite of mine.
I remember coming home with it and groaning Oh what sort of pop tripe will this be?
Then I saw the soloist was recorded in Nashvile and thought Oh what sort of country western pop tripe will this be?Pleasant surprise it is a Morriconean take on the love music.
Rather nice actually
Ciao,
