I just arrived at my inlaws for the holidays after a several hour drive. While in the car, I put in Lion King for my 3 year old boy, although he didn't know it. He immediately began singing with the songs. But then the score started and that's when I was just amazed and excited.

The music began to play and my boy said "I like Rafiki. He paints Simba". And he said this exactly at the point in the music where that happens. The track of the stampede began to play and he yelled "the horses are gonna get Simba daddy!" (he doesn't realize they're wildebeast. Anyway, time and time again he told us what was happening during the music.

Then I put in Beauty and the Beast. Within the first 4 notes, he said "Beauty and the Beast". Then he began talking about the castle, which is during this opening music. Then when the music began dark he said "The beast just clawed!" which is when beast ripped the picture of himself.

Anyway, I was just amazed and so excited that he knows the music. I just had to tell people. I hope you don't mind indulging this post. I'm just a proud daddy.

Oh, and he says "Star Wars" from hearing the first note. But who doesn't know that music.

    Great stuff Sebulba!

I try that with my little sister (9) all the time. I also like trying to get her to guess the film the music is from by the type of music (when she hasn't seen the film)

e.g. She tells me that the music sounds oriental - and guesses Anna and the King.
Military sounding music - Small Soldiers etc.

When I put Mousehunt on (she hadn't seen it) she guessed after 5 secs becuase she realised that the music sounded 'mousy'

    Ah, the wonders of music.

Hey "Proud Daddy," thanks for sharing. I love your story. My first encounter with "visual" music was with Peter and the Wolf and The Nutcracker Suite. Sounds like he is ready for the classics. Happy Thanksgiving.

    Hey Chris!

That's a real cool story about your son! Warms the heart to know that a child would have that kind of recognition and be able to share something with his father!
