    2 quick questions -

I saw Angela's Ashes yesterday and was looking forward to the ending which I assumed would be 'Back to America' from the score.

However, only the first bit of the score track was played and then the film ended. Was this the original film edit or is the CD track a mix with music from some other scene?

    2 -

I finally got the Shawshank Redemption CD which I absolutely adore, partly due to my feelings towards the film. The thematic beauty and emotion of the score are breathtaking.

What other Thomas Newman scores would you recommend? I've heard snippets of Horse Whisperer and liked them, and I love the ending of Meet Joe Black. Any others?

    Thanks.

Two melodic, beautiful scores by Thomas Newman that I would recommend are Oscar and Lucinda and Little Women.

I second Joan's recommendations. Those are two beautiful scores. I'd also suggest picking up Scent of a Woman, which is another great Newman score.

The Green Mile has some great music on it. my favorite bit though can be heard over the final execution, or the moments leading up to it...

Try American Beauty. I can say it is a mixed bag of goodies. It has some light hearted cues, some "weird" ones as well as some emotional ones.

I'd recommend "How to make an American Quilt"
    The "quilting theme" is wonderful.

    American Beauty is also excellent.

I noticed the abbreviated playing time of "Back to America" in the film as well. I would guess it's a film edit since on the CD it sounds like an individual piece. It doesn't have that segue feel to it if you know what I mean.

I have heard that is common in the Angela's Ashes film.

is it true that Williams' score is not very prevalent in the film?

obviously, I have yet to see it...

    JJ,
I actually thought the Williams score was VERY prevalent. I mean, it's not a 90-minute score, but it's very, very effective.

Actually, I would agree that the score wasn't too prevalent.

Apart from the main piano theme that is, which noticably opens the film and pops up here and there.

Otherwise the main times when you really notice the music are the numerous period songs - 2 of which are on the score album.

I totally missed for example - Dad's stories, Delivering telegrams and watching the eclipse (which by the way is very scientifically incorrect)

NP - The Offspring - The kids aren't allright (guilty pleasures!)
