I'm not familiar with Asian-sounding scores.

    I can only think of:

    - Mulan
    - Anna and the King
    - The Thin Red Line (To a certain degree)

    So, any suggestions?

Here are several very excellent pieces of music written for film:

Anna and the King of Siam (Herrmann)
    Heaven & Earth (Kitaro)
    The Picture Bride (Mark Adler)
The Joy Luck Club (Rachel Portman)

These last two are out of print, unfortunately. I really wish The Joy Luck Club was widely available. My absolute favorite Portman score; such a great movie.

There are plenty more examples that will follow I am sure. The Sand Pebbles is great, as well....

    NP - Joy Luck Club

Strange, it was just three weeks ago that I decided to make myself a compilation of exactly that. I took the best from all the Asian-influenced scores I had and stuck 'em on a 90minute tape.
    Here's what was on it:

    Red Corner (T.Newman/edel)
    Brokedown Palace (D.Newman/promo)
Once upon a time in China (from Silva compilation of asian movie themes)
    Double Impact (Art Kempel/Silva)
The Amazing Panda Adventur (William Ross/promo)
Seven years in Tibet (John WIlliams/Sony)
    Snow falling on Cedars (JNH/Decca)
    Mulan
    Rambo 2
    Paradise Road (Ross Edwards/Sony)
    Return to Paradise (Mark Mancina/VSD)
    Operation Dumbo Drop (David Newman/Disney)
Dragon: The bruce lee story (Edelman/MCA)
    Picture Bride (Eidelman/VSD)
    Anna and the king (Fenton/LaFace)
    Princess Mononoke (Hisaishi/Milan)

There would be many others, but I didn't have space on the tape for everything, so I had to choose only the best, and I think that's it (of the stuff I own).
There are some other thing I don't have yet, but which are great:
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (or something like that) by Tan Dun/Sony Classical
    The Corruptor by Carter Burwell/VSD
and I forgot what else I had in mind. Oh well, it's already a rather long list. Hope it helps.

I totally forgot Beyond Rangoon. I have that already...

Joy Luck Club, as a matter of fact, I saw in a used bin just the other day. I'll have to go back now.

As for the other titles, wow. I'll have to take my time and discover them all.

    Thanks!

Don't forget about the missing pieces of The Matrix. Don Davis used some asian music instruments in the film for the fight scenes. Neither of the cues where placed on the soundtrack. You can listen to them on isolated score on dvd.
