delighted by what I saw in the store today!

a veritable treasure trove of European import classical stuff for extremely cheap prices.

For example, I just got a brand spanking new 3CD performance of the JS Bach St Matthew Passion, previously beyond my fiscal reach. Marvellously conducted by Philippe Herreweghe.

Also picked up Shostakovich's Symphony No. 14.

Well, I have spent quite some money again in November. But - what should I say - every score was worht its money:

Police Story (Goldsmith, as I haven't known him before!!)
The Omega Man (Grainer; more or less monothematic but very enjoyable; I've waited for this one for more than a decade!!!)
    Take A hard Ride (Goldsmith)
    100 Rifles (Goldsmith)
    - since I am a huge Goldsmith-fan I had to get these... "Lokk! There ain't no more damn guns!"
The Poseidon Adventure (Williams; features music from Conrack and The Paper Chase)

Really, I AM happy with these - highly recommendable!

    Floyd.

Well, I went Amarillo since I forgot to transfer my voter registration, so I came down to vote, and did some worthwhile CD shopping.

    I found:

    Red Planet, revell
    Legend of Baggy Pants, Portman
    City Slickers 2, Shaiman
    Battle of Britain, Goodwin/ Walton
    Anywhere But Here, Elfman
    Rounders, Young

all for $8.98/ all of them new, still sealed

there was also yet another copy of John Barry's Specialist score, sealed. For something that is supposed to be so rare, it sure seems to pop up a lot in West Texas.

As an added bonus, I found a new cassette copy of Randy Newman's Awakenings score. Marvellous! Too bad I can't find the CD of it.

Any other tracks on it that are not on the U.S. relase, score tracks I mean? I like Randy Newman's songs, but I'm sure I can do without the German versions.

Myself, I picked up The Doors Concerto. I was sceptical at first when I saw TV commercials about this, but when I heard it in the store, I had to get it. Great CD.

And, the Jurassic Park DVD arrived after at least 3 weeks of shipping.

Finally - Magnolia. Loving every minute of it - and I still haven't reached 'So Now Then'!

Marian - Nope, the score is exactly the same as the US release - but I can't tell you what it's like becuase with all the scores I got in the last 2 days I haven't heard it yet.

Then again, I just re-read your question, and you probably have it, so you know what it's like

My Amazon.de order arrived, all Goldsmith:
    • Under Fire
    • Twilight Zone - The Movie
    • Rambo 3
    • City Hall

I was going to ask if City Hall has liner notes, because as the inside of my book, Varese accidentally included their mini-catalogue, the one which is usually included in the jewel case, but not as part of the booklet. But the case wasn't sealed anyway, and the disc is so scratched that several tracks won't play correctly, so Amazon will have to exchange the disc.

NP: City Hall (Jerry Goldsmith) (Well, parts of it, at least... )
NP: Under Fire (Jerry Goldsmith) (when editing the message)

Rambo 3 is just playing over my headphones, and while track 4 is too early to "judge" the score, I now know what all of you meant by "bad performance". I have really no problem with the performance of the Hungarians on the Lionheart disc (yeah, it doesn't sound as powerful as a NSO recording, but still good, in my ears), but that wonderful percussion passage in "Preparations" really does sound odd.

...and not only did I not have to wait so long between the Rambo scores, I also got all the extended versions right away.

    Angela's Ashes (John Williams)

Got this from the book club. If I don't get something every month I lose my discount. Anyway, last month there were two CDs in the catalogue: Julio Iglesias's greatest hits and Angela's Ashes. So I got Julio Iglesias. No I didn't. But I didn't know which Angela I was getting (the musicky one or the speaky one). It was the musicky one.

Nice pictures in the booklet (I wish I could take pictures like that).

And John Williams is the greatest composer ever (even though I'll have to give this a few more listens: Stepmom was nondescript for me at first, and now it's a total joy).
