Right NOW I'm listening to my roommate monkey with his drum machine ... fortunately I'll be having to leave the house anyway, before it can make me thoroughly nuts. (In fairness, his finished tracks that I've heard are pretty good, it's just that it takes him SO LONG TO GET THERE.)

Well.. I'm playing Last of The Mohicans (Varese) at the moment.Tomorrow evening, however, I'm going to hook up the CD player to the stereo and play The Devil's Advocate and Lost Souls loudly enough to be heard outside the front door. then I'm going to turn off all the lights and set various booby traps on the front walk. Then I'm going to see who gets to the door.

Devil's Advocate... is this still in print? I think I saw at Amazon that it's not available, though I'd like to get it. Well, stores around here sometimes still have hard to find items, simply because nobody buys them.NP: Hollow Man (Jerry Goldsmith)

Well, I was just playing Schifrin's Dirty Harry Anthology (Scorpio's theme is definately Halloween'ish!), but I've now changed the CD to The HAMMER Film Music Collection Vol.1...it's just into Franz Reizenstein's THE MUMMY!Marian, let me know if you can't get hold of JNH's Devil's Advocate?

strangely enough the Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas soundtrack hasnt left my car disc changer since saturday. This is b/c my roommate and I are terrorizing Bozeman dressed as a very convincing Hunter S. Thompson aka "Raul Duke" and Dr. Gonzo from the film. I studied the film for the last month.. so its pretty scary how much the resmblance is. Gotten tons of compliments so far.. can't wait for halloween. I'll probably throw Debney's I know what you did last summer and Youngs Urban Legend in on tues night just to mix things up a bit. And I'll have to keep my eye out for those DAMN BATS!!!Rich D.

Totally agreed... and if the kids want to be really scared, make sure they cue up the version that came out privately and not the one released by Varese. Truly terrifying...

Since it's been a tradition among a few of us for years now, I listen to the Mercury Theater broadcast of "War of the Worlds."Kevin

My music teacher at college mentioned today that some people from the school were going to attempt a recreation of Welles' great production of WAR OF THE WORLDS. I guess this was done last year as well. He (my teacher) was going to be accompanying on piano the recreated show, but unfortunately I was unable to attend. Too bad because it sounded like it would be very cool.[Message edited by Rang on 10-30-2000]

Actually I'm listening to Massive Attack's No Protection. Hardly Halloween-y, but I've just got it out of the library, & had to have a listen. It's pretty cool, with some string/piano arrangements by Mr Craig Armstrong. This evening, though, the Uni Film Society is showing Mario Bava's Black Sunday, & Plague of the Zombies!!!! Oh, I'm so looking forward to this...

I'm going to play scary Halloween music for my friends later tonight but for right now, I'm listening to "It Makes No Difference to Me" from Sum 41's new cd "The Half Hour of Power!" It's cool! All that and the sun came back out! I'm going to skate after school! Whoo Hoo!Joey

BMikeJ,
We're going to get along just fine! The "private" version of the score sounds slightly harsher (it adds to its freakiness), but it has all of the effects that Varese claimed were "lost" (why not just use the bootleg?).Shaun

In the afternoon, I player The Fury, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Damien: Omen II. Later, I watched the Simpsons Halloween Special IX, and just now finished watching my VHS copy of Poltergeist (un-dubbed original version in 2.35:1, from the time when we still had TNT here). Now I'm playing Alien (complete) as a finish.

So there are bootlegs of movie music too? I guess that's pretty cool if there's a movie you like that doesn't have all the music from a good movie. I liked the music in "Sling Blade" and not all of it was on the CD. That sucked. My friend has some cool punk rock bootlegs and they're pretty cool. I don't think my store has them. Do you guys like bootlegs?Joey

Everyone seems to be agreeing that Devil's Advocate is scary - but apart from that, would you recommend it as a good CD?I was going to pick it up but was afraid it would be all atonal matrix-like stuff.
Please enlighten me.

Yes, Devil's Advocate is a good buy, especially if you like JNH scores. It has some great choral work (such as in 57th Street, and my personal favorite track: Lovemaking. The track starts off slow and tender, like a romantic score, and then wrenchs you around, turns upsidedown, and becomes truly disturbing). There's no overriding theme in the score; instead, James Newton Howard holds the score together with motifs and style. Trust me: you should get it.NP: Masada Complete, Goldsmith/Stevens
