I listened to several MP3 clips of this video game soundtrack... so where can I find this title? I've tried CDnow, HMV.com, Pentagon.net, heck, here at MM. Seems like Amazon.com is the only site with this title! And will there be a soundtrack sequal release for the second Medal PSX game?

Medal of Honor is only available at Amazon. I heard that it was more profitable to do it this way thatn to do a regular release like the Lost World.Medal of Honor is one of the best game scores I have ever heard..it ranks with Outcast, Heart of Darkness, and the original Tie Fighter. It is the most "john williams-sounding score" ever, yet it doesn't rip him off. The sequel score should be out soon, it promises to be even better

Where is Heart of Darkness available and who did it? Was this on PSX?

Alwin, I haven't heard anything about a release for the sequel. There are some clips available at the game's website. When I listened to them initally, I met with disappointment, due to the use of synthesizers and lack of captivating melodies. I'll recommend the first very highly, but as for the second, I'm not so sure. I'll have to hear more of it.Miguel, Heart of Darkness is an excellent orchestral score composed by none other than Mr. Bruce Broughton. Highly recommended. It's out by Intrada. The game was release for PC and PSX. Pretty fun... I still haven't finished it.

Heart of Darkness is available from intrada I think. It was a much delayed action game that had an orchestral score by Bruce Broughton...it has a cool action theme. Its a short cd, but a good one.I had heard that Medal of Honor was going to have a choral theme, along with reprises of the old action themes. I will check out the samples, but I still think that if Giacchino is scoring the game it will be a must buy.

I read in a Best Buy ad that if you purchase the Medal of Honor 2 game, you will get the soundtrack free. This is for a limited time, of course... and while supplies last.posted 10-30-2000 08:50 AM PT (US)

I have the Medal of Honor 2 score. It great, it's a little beter than the first one I think. There is boys choir in a few tracks, and 2 new themes, only the Nazi theme from the first score is here.
I wish I had the CD here with me to give you a track list, but I don't , so I'll just let you know it's 19 tracks (19th track is not listed on track list), and runs 66:50
The best tracks are the The Main Theme, Last Rights, and Beneath the City, great stuff for a game.

Well, hopefully for the second Medal soundtrack, we'll be able to order from any major online retailer other than Amazon. For now, I'll just have to order from Amazon, which means astronomical shipping charges for me, coupled with our lousy exchange rate. Doh!

Peter, I read what Alex posted...I figured Tim might have obtained it without buying the game. I don't own a PSX, so purchasing the game doesn't make sense... unless that's the only way I can get a hold of the score.

No I didn't buy the game. My sister who just got a job a the new Best Buy that just opened here, was able tobuy me a copy for ¢1. Also a 4-CD set of the Command and Conquier & Red Alert game soundtracks.
To my knowlege you are supposed to buy the games to get the soundtracks for free, but if you ask just for the soundtrack, it comes to ¢1 when they ring it up.BTW I've been away for a long time, I was surprised to see the site fully complete now?

Well I really liked the Patterson theme from the first game, that's not in the new one, becuase you play a new character. But a majority of the rest wasn't all that spectacular other than 2 or 3 tracks.
I guess the difference is, is that Underground sounds more like a score composed for a movie, even more than the first one. There are also different ethnic textures woven into the score., since the character travels through France, North Africa, Italy, Greece, and Germany. And then he throws this choir on top of it.
I haven't played the game so I don't know how it works out, but I did play the first one. And I didn't like the way the score looped repeatedly, and didn't really follow the action on screen at all.
I don't know if the track list is already posted anywhere, but here goes.Medal of Honor :Underground
1. May 10th, 1940 (Main Theme) 4:33
2. The Streets of Paris 3:48
3. Amongst the Dead 3:16
4. Fleeing the Catacombs 3:06
5. Panzer Blockade 3:38
6. The Road to Toburuk 3:38
7. Escape from Casablanca 3:20
8. Passage to Iráklion 3:38
9. Labyrinth of the Minotaur 3:21
10. Ascent to the Castle 3:24
11. Last Rites 3:31
12. The Battle of Monte Cassino 3:13
13. The Motocycle Chase 4:17
14. Returning to Paris 3:22
15. Beneath the City 3:09
16. "Each Night He Comes To Me" - Song (English) 3:51
17. May 10th, 1940 (Altnerate Version) 4:33
18. Er lässt mich niemals allein (OSS RADIO BROADCAST) (German) 4:32
19. Unnamed - not listed in the track listing, features dialoge from the intro of the game, and a portion of the main theme. 1:03

Thanks Tim, this information is perfect. I like scores with ethnic elements. I imagine it really makes some of these adventure/war games that are "on-location" feel foreign.Game soundtracks are starting to get some momentum, as far as releases, don't you think?

The difference between a game and a movie is that a movie has strictly specified timings, a game has not. Unless there's a defined time limit in the game, you cannot know how long a player stays in a level (or whatever), ergo you have to loop.
Some guys at LucasArts (at least some of them were game composers) developed the iMUSE system, which allowed the music to follow the game actions. The composers wrote several key pieces, and the iMUSE system "blended" them into each other when a transition was required. At that time, MIDI was still the usual format for game music, so this is no great problem - you have the musical NOTES, and can alter them accordingly. With recorded music, this is virtually impossible (at least for now), because you cannot dynamically change things like instrumentation within one piece.

FYI,I'm going to be presenting the World Broadcast Premiere of Michael Giacchino's score to Medal of Honor: Underground on November 11th on CINEMATIC SOUND. I will also be presenting a 40 minute interview I conducted with Mr. Giacchino during the recording sessions. In addition to that I'm currently producing a music video of the Main Theme for Giacchino for him to do what he wishes with it. I filmed about 3 1/2 hours of footage of the recording session in June. I also took 10 of the 11 photo's available in the into sleeve of the CD cover. Oh well, this has been one big shameless plug!
Anyway, you will be able to hear the complete score on the program begin at 12pm EST on Saturday November 11th. Go to http://www.geocities.com/filmmusic1 for more information.

Thanks TimT! I love the suite, and can't wait to buy the score.I recommend that everyone download it, its beautiful. The hints of the accordian in the theme make it sound just "French" enough
And the choral section is one of the most beautiful things I have heard in a long time...it reminds me of the boys choir from Glory. I am glad that the Nazi theme makes an appearance, as it now ranks with Vaders theme and the Indiana Jones villian themes as my favorite "bad guy" music

I just picked up my one cent disc of this. The first track is the best cue, I think. The rest is basically action/suspense music, but it sounds much more inspired than the action material he wrote for The Lost World Playstation game. It's worth the penny for the first track alone. Go get it!

I had to ask, but I found out that all of the available soundtracks are stocked along with the Playstation games. So just go to the Playstation section and look for the CDs. They'll have a price tag of .01 on it. If you can't find it, you might as well ask. But I don't think you'll have to.Hope this helps. Go pick up a copy!
