There has been a sock sitting on my dresser for a month and a half. I couldn't find the mate for the life of me. Granted, it wasn't exactly like I was tearing my house apart looking for it, but at the same time, every load of laundry I did, I checked for this sock to no avail. This morning, I found the mate. As I brought them together, they began to glow like the Sankara stones, and the respective music from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom began playing in my head.
Just thought I'd share this.

It's a relief bordering on orgasm to know that those socks have finally been reunited. I haven't been this thrilled since The Who reunited for the 14th time. Needless to say, this calls for a celebratory blow-out. Break out the champagne. Cue up Beethoven's "Ode to Joy". And now excuse me while I have a good cry. EXPECT A MIRACLE!

I log on for the first time today, and this is nearly the first thing I see. I really am for once at a loss for words. Suffice it to say that I am grateful you did not mention the missing sock until you had found its poor, suffering twin. I would have worried most gravely about the situation, had I known of it, and I compliment you on your restraint in mentioning the matter until all was solved.NP: in celebration: Holst's "Planets" : "Jupiter, Bringer of Jollity."

My sincere and unadulterated congratulations on your quest. I feel I can relate to your quasi-religious experience.I just wish I knew what the music from Temple of Doom sounds like.

Thank you so much for all of your words of support. It truly was a moment in my life, and I was glad to be able to give everybody just this small piece of me.Now, if only the Mets could arrange their own little miracle...

So you're pulling for the Mets, eh, Mr. Buckler? As a Brooklyn boy, I should logically be pulling for them too. However, the Yankees have brought us such joy for the past few years, it seems rude to suddenly shift alliances. But all things considered, I like the underdog, and that, the Mets usually are. If nothing else, one would root in principle AGAINST Mr. Steinbrenner. Although I did enjoy his slightly self-mocking turn in the underrated Albert Brooks picture THE SCOUT (which sported a nice score by Bill Conti -- though listening to it, I'm just SURE the temp track must have been John Scott's LIONHEART, although Conti's version is pretty subtle and more pop-flavored).Man, I picked the wrong season to move out of the city! The atmosphere up there must be maniacal. Add that to the Jets whipping the Dolphins -- wow, I can't imagine it! (Although I can tell you the atmosphere here in the Miami area was pretty grim.)
NW: (as in Now Wearing): my non-partisan Subway Series T-shirt (both teams represented, helmets and logos colliding. Just think, if subway tokens were still used, there'd surely be token logo as well. I don't blame them for leaving off a Metro Card logo, it's just not as flashy.)
(Looking down at the shirt, I just noticed the phrase "Subway Series" is a registered trademark! Of who? Major League Baseball, I imagine, though I'm not entirely sure this shirt isn't a bootleg. And we all know how much I HATE bootlegs!

There is a token logo... what it must mean to kids that have never used a token in their lives, I don't know.Yeah, I'm pulling for the Mets. I root for the Yankees when they're up against someone else, but when the chips are down...
Let's face it, rooting for the Yankees is a little like rooting for the Galactic Empire, with George "Emperor Palpatine" Steinbrenner calling the shots and Joe "Darth Vader" Torre managing the field. I don't think it's such a stretch; look at that American General Life Insurance commercial that has Torre smiling at the camera. It's one of the scariest images ever broadcast.
Honestly, though, I have no illusions as to who is going to win this World Series... I just wish it could be.
Maybe I believe... just a little bit...

P.S. The socks were both clean; they were from separate washes. Legend has it that when the socks are brought together, the diamonds in them will glow.

Well, so much for beliefs. My sentimental favorite was trounced pretty much as I expected.Congratulations to the New York Yankees on their victory.
It all goes to show you... Joe Torre's tactic is right... it's all in the bullpen.
