Alright folks, I figured I'd come to you for help. My parents are members of the local Rotary Club here, and well, they're throwing a huge Halloween Party at a local mansion. They're expecting 200-300 people. Incidentally, I'm in charge of the music. I've been assigned the task to put together 5-6 cds worth of song and dance. This can include anything that might appeal to the 30-40-50 y.o. age group, plus Halloween-oriented music and then, party-friendly film music (that rules out Ave Satani, Duel of the Fates, etc). Here's what I have so far:Of the Oingo Boingo kind (gotta include Danny!):
-Dead Man's Party
-Insanity
-Little Girls
-Wierd Science
-Any Other Suggestions?Various stuff per request (don't ask me why):
-www.Memory (Alan Jackson)
-Right Where I Need To Be (Gary Allan)
-Monster Mash
-Sweet Dreams (Patsy Cline)
-0ne Eyed One Horned Flying Purple People Eater
-Blue (Leanne Rimes)
-Brown Eyed Girl (Morrison)
-Can't Get No Satisfaction (Rolling Stones)
-We Are Family (Pointer Sisters)Stuff I've Chosen:
-X-Files Remix (Robert Miles)
-Outer Limits Theme ('95 Version)
-Munsters (New Version, Rock-Oriented)
-Addams Groove (MC Hammer) <-LOL
-Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor (Bach)
-X-Files Paranormal Mix (DJ Dado)
-Castlevania Dance Mix (it's cool, trust me)
-Gremlins 2 (tracks 3, 7, 12)
-Play Dead (Bjork / David Arnold)
-Randall & Hopkirk (Nina Persson / David Arnold)
-Surrender (K.D. Lang / David Arnold)
-OHMSS (Propellerheads / David Arnold)
-Other Bond Songs
-Maybe some Austin Powers (Clinton stuff)
-Swing Rave (from Titus)
-Adagio (from Titus)
-The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (Theme by Jerry)
-This is Halloween (from Nightmare... should I?)
-History Repeating (Propellerheads / Shirley Bassey)
-Various Garbage Songs...
-Day-O (Belafonte) ...Beetlejuice!
-Jump in Line (Belafonte) ...Beetlejuice!
-Beetleju... nah, won't say it a third time.
-Everything I Do (Robin Hood... yeah, yeah. Shut up.)
-All for Love (Kamen's good with this guy!)
-Have You Really Ever Loved A Woman (...don't say it!)
-The River Is Wide (Do we see a trend?)
-Desert Rose (Sting)
-The Mighty (Sting)
-Moonlight (Sting)
-Should I do Horner songs? Or would they all sound the same? J/K!
-Mamushka (Addams Family)
-Some Shaiman/Addams Family stuff...But this isn't enough to fill up 6 discs... I need loads of suggestions. I'm pulling this stuff from Napster, as my collection doesn't span such a wide variety of music. Obviously everything I'm contributing is film-oriented.
Let me know if you have any other valid "film-oriented" suggestions ... or anything else for that matter. I have no say in the "requests." Some of those are goofy, I know. Anyway... This shindig is goin' down this weekend, so hop to it!
Your help is appreciated!

Wasn't there some comic about this in an issue of FSM or Starlog or something? I remember hilarious suggestions like "Bobbing for Apples to 'Ave Satani' " and such and such.See if you can't find the theme to "The Haunted Palace."

Surely you can find the theme from Halloween! It's classic. A must for a Halloween party. And to add to the atmosphere... maybe Ennio Morricone's main theme for The Thing?
Just quick suggestions.

how about any music from friday the 13th.. the track moments of madness (running at around 6 mins i think) can be found on napster. Then theres I know what you did last summer, urban legend, the theme from jaws. The cue called "tall man on main street" from phantasm is pretty creepy (also on napster). The main title from 12 monkeys. Possibly some of the music from horners aliens score (especially the bitch). Goldsmiths Coma score for suspense. Definately Carpenters halloween theme. I dont know how party friendly these will be.. but i hope it helps.Rich D.

I know someone who did a party a few years ago (granted it was for a school), and I loaned them by Telarc "Chiller" disc. It's got lots of great scary-type stuff.Have you thought of using anything from Alien/Aliens? You need spooky stuff.
Kevin
PS. Forgot to mention we'll be doing something really scary that night - celebrating my brother's 30th birthday. Now he'll be "officially" old!

On the Phantasm DVD, there is a special remix of the Phantasm theme made especially for Halloween parties. See if you could get a hold of this.

All great suggestions, though remember- these selections have to be "mingle-friendly" as well. I don't want people un-accustomed to awesome scores such as "Alien" and "Jaws" or "Urban Legend" to be wondering "when in the heck is this gonna end?" It needs to be good, catchy, fun and energetic stuff. Of course, I do plan on throwing in a few sporadic pieces here and there.Alex, would Ottman's take on the "Halloween" theme be good enough? I've always favored that one over all previous renditions.

An obscure suggestion, but Ennio Morricone's EXORCIST II has some wacky danceable creepy stuff on it.NP: the less danceable TOTAL RECALL

Pazuzu!! LOL Exorcist II is a hoot of a score, right down to Ennio incorporating the sound of a whip cracking in one of the tracks...

I thought there was a Great Pumpkin song on one of the Charlie Brown cds, and that and Lucy and Linus would be a good change of pace.Dr Demento had a Halloween cd out a while back with "novelty" songs.
Martha Stewart just issued a Halloween cd. However anything with her picture on it is too scary for me.

His H'ness is spot on, I can't remember the name of the track (first track on side 2 of the LP....I haven't got it on CD!) it's a rocking devilish sounding track with choir, electric guitar and as BmikeJ say's, whip too!, it sounds like it should be played by a group made up of Goth's and a Dominatrix
Good list so far Jeron

And at midnight, turn off all the lights and put in The Murder from Psycho. That should teach them to respect film music!

Jeron,Ottman's arrangement of the "Halloween" theme probably would be more mingle-friendly. It's more tame- both in composition and that it lacks those harsh synths from the original. But whenever the time comes for a Halloween party with just a bunch of friends, the classic version is a MUST. It is immediately recognizable.

Rotary people? This should be good, especially the dancing part. Now that it looks like Jeron has a good list (it actually looked like he already had a good list before posting here, anyway - who needs help!?), may we start suggesting what people should wear.
I prefer to dress up as the devil, much like Jerry Goldsmith is doing this year!

Before we forget, and for those who didn't just visit the hyper-linked Jerry Goldsmith in my previous post, Morricone's EXORCIST II is indeed THE score to the sequel of the scariest movie ever!!How about wearing a Dracula costume, with fangs, just as Morricone is doing this year!?

How's about adding in the Danse Macabre... uh "Waltz to the Death" from Batman.Hmm... The Exorcist II is an interesting suggestion... I'm thinking that Morricone might be a good source to mine, given that many of his film scores have that pop sensibility to them.
The problem here is "mingle-friendly," of course. All of us would chime in with Alien, but you're not trying to make people poop themselves...
I may get hung for mentioning this, but I may as well... why not throw in a few tracks from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, such as "Over at the Frankenstein Place..."
