I need soft piano music while reading...

I have Horner's 'Portrait' cue from Titanic, so something like that, or even something like the 'Animal Crackers' cue from Armageddon.

Nearly all of Dave Grusin's THE FIRM is carried by solo piano. It's an ingenious piece of work, IMHO, and I normally don't much care for Grusin's work.

Haven't heard it, but I'd think Poledouris' score for "It's My Party" would be a good one. Can anyone recommend this?

I'd recommend checking out "Legends of the Fall", "Sabrina", "Swept from the Sea", "Somewhere in Time", "Great Expectations", "Passion of Mind", "The Edge", "The Rocketeer", "Shining Through", "Legend of 1900", and (of course) "The Piano"...

Particularly "Passion of Mind"...I think that one was missed this past year, and deserves better notice....

Debbie Wiseman: Haunted--> if you do not find this score, I will hunt you down. Exquisite solo piano theme.

Michael Nyman: The Piano, a fairly obvious selection...

Georges Delerue: Memories of Me, from The London Sessions, I forget which volume

Yared: The English Patient; mostly a Bach transcription I think

    well, there ya go.

NP -- Hudsucker Proxy, Burwell. pumping myself up for the Blair Witch 2 score.

One of my favorites is the "Lonely Man" theme by Joe Harnell from the T.V. series "The Incredible Hulk".

Pretty much anything Joe Harnell does is great! (To me anyway)

Sticking with Horner, I would encourage you to get Searching For Bobby Fisher. Plenty of piano solos in that score... And I think Man Without A Face might have some piano solos, also.

My goodness, some of you put a lot of thought into this! Thanks a lot! Some of the titles mentioned I have, some I will buy. I just thought of Yared's Message in a Bottle too.

Once again, thanks for coming up with everything!

A few that spring to mind -

'Playing love' from Legend of 1900
'The Execution' from Anna and the King
    'Main Titles' from Patch Adams
'With the help of God, shine' from Shine
'Over the Moon' from ET (original release)
    'Love theme' from Blue Lagoon
    'Cinema Paradiso' from (guess )
'Love theme' from Romeo and Juliet
    'Casper's Lullaby' from Casper
'Ilia's Theme' from Star Trek TMP
'Ashitaka and San' from Princess Mononoke
    'Main Titles' from Shining Through
    'Dear Mr. Wells' from 8mm
    'In the bath' from Pleasantville

All the above come highly recommended. In fact, this is beginning to look like a list of my favourite tracks. I guess I like piano.

NP - All of the above

JENNIFER 8 by Christopher Young. That was the first score of his to be translated into piano sheet music! I've got it someplace ...

On the weirder side, the FSM release of TORA TORA TORA includes a piano rendition of the main theme! It's on the gloomy side, though.

In addition to some (and many strange suggestions!) of those above, I'd suggest a couple of Michael Chertock piano cds on Telarc.

For film scores, so far not mentioned:

    Forest Gump (Silvestri)
    Legend of Bagger Vance (Portman)
    Presumed Innocent (Williams)
    Playing By Heart (Barry)

There is also a disc on Naxos that is called "Piano at the Movies" or something like that. It is not bad and has some warhorses on it like the "Warsaw Concerto".

Seeing as most composer's compose with a piano there is really no mystery as to why some cues have piano playing in them. It sounds more nice on piano .

Someone mentioned Debbie Wiseman but didn't mention Tom & Viv which is nearly all solo piano or piano based cues that might be perfect for your intentions
