It's 4:30 in the morning, and I'm still working because today's a deadline coming up. I'll have to stay awake for quite a while still, so if anybody could mention some music that prevents me from falling asleep, yet isn't so annoying that I can't work when playing it, I would be really grateful (at least when I'm finished and had some sleep ).

    Note my wide-awake smiley face.

Any Zimmer stuff you like? BACKDRAFT is heavy and addictive, as is THE POWER OF ONE.

Goldsmith's CAPRICORN ONE, or any of his RAMBO scores, particulary the second one. You've been playing his bouncy DAMIEN OMEN II often enough lately! Speaking of yet another score with "II" in its title, what about Christopher Young's THE FLY II?

But your favorite composer is Williams, isn't it ... how 'bout any given Indy score?

Something worth thinking about, since I'm on a deadline too ... (two of em actually ... oh hell, that II thing again)

Thanks, First Blood Part 2 it is for now (there's still a gap in my Goldsmith collection where the other Rambo scores should be). Fly 2 later, if I'm still not finished after this CD is over. I don't have much Zimmer; regarding the Indy scores, I find Williams action scores a bit too distracting while working lately, Goldsmith seems to work better as background music.

    How rude!

Lion in Winter is a really good idea, maybe I'll still have time for it...

Ironically, some cues from Sleepy Hollow might be quite suitable.

    Others:
    1. The Rock
    2. Armageddon
    3. M:I-2
    4. Any action scores you can think of!

Well, here I am, back after 3 hours of sleep. A couple more hours to go until the deadline. I really don't care if I make it or not. Sure, there are people depending on me, but they gave me about twice the work to do that could reasonably be done in this time, so it really isn't my fault if I can't finish enough of it.

Will, thanks for the list. Sleepy Hollow is indeed a good idea. The Rock and Armageddon aren't my cup of tea (granted, they would probably keep me awake ), and I've never heard MI2.

NP: Nothing; I'm still feeling a bit dizzy from the short night, I think music would only distract me right now. Ah, when this is all over, I'll have a nice looong nap.

    Marian,

No suggestions here but I may need a few myself. I'm headed for a similar deadline grind myself and it's Friday!

I'll be sitting in front of the MAC for many hours to come.

To this day, I NEVER put on any of the Omen scores before I go to sleep. They scare the HECK out of me! Especially the first one... I will invariably doze off during the first couple of tracks and get woken up by the chorus during The Killer Storm. And then there's NO way I can get back to sleep!

    Here are a few:
    • Air Force One
    • Jaws
    • Cutthroat Island
    • Flesh And Blood
    • Outbreak (Complete Score)
    • The World Is Not Enough
    • Supergirl
    • G.I. Jane
    • Dinosaur
    • Lionheart
    • Conan

I highly recommend Lionheart, Conan, and Flesh And Blood. Sheer orchestral power will keep your eyes open.

JRocco, curiously enough (and perhaps rather perversely - but what can I say, I'm a child of the eighties) I always find that I sleep rather well after listening to First Blood II, though this is in no way a criticism of the score.

    Marian, try these:

    The Omen
Capricorn One with the stereo cranked up all the way - to 11
    Lord of the Rings
    Conan the Barbarian
and, of course, our mutual friend:
    Alien

Or, if all else fails, coffee.

Thanks for all the recommendations. The deadline is over, and obviously I did well enough, the project will go on.

HAL, I won't mention anything new, there are so many good recommendations here already, and I hope that you don't need MORE than these!

Well, as you've started listing Shostakovich; RVW's 4th symphony or Stravinsky's Rite of Spring certainly can keep you awake, too, but they may a bit too distracting when you have a deadline and must be really efficient at work.

something else comes to mind, as I was just listening to it:

    The Miraculous Mandarin by Bartok.

For certian, I cannot sleep through that one! Not that it's frightening, but because of the perverse dance rhythms, and the brash opening. yeah baby!
