WELL, I just finished reading Harry Potter and to tell you the truth despite the fact that I found it a children's fantsy book.. I just couldnt stop reading it. In the end its full of fun and it certainly will make a good movie for us muggles and some wizard folks.

Now, I just dont want to give the plot of the story, but I will rant a bit about the music when it gets composed by John Williams, the greatest wizards..er.. I mean Composers of our times.

I think the movie is most likely to be tracked with Home Alone, Hook and Witches of Eastwick. Its a childrens movie and theres hardly anything new that will give Williams to explore again. Its all been done before. Even the climax of the story is similar to Star Wars specially Jedi(...I wont say more..go read the book) but I expect Williams to use a great deal of thumping pizzicato for lot of sneaking around and chirping piccolos for magic,Dark and scary music bordering on gothic..yes think duel of the fates toned down a bit for kids..(heh heh) and all that glittery razmaztaz for kiddie films, including a moving epilogue music and a triumphant finale.

And of course a Flying theme for whatshisname..ah!..yes..Potter!..HARRY POTTER.!

Needless to say this will be quick for Williams who will write down this score in a jiffy once he has figured out the themes.

I only wish that Wiliams would surprise me this time.

Maybe a mischiveous score with a few dark shades of english wind instruments would do some good in bringing new colour to Williams standard pastiche. I would love it if he were to bring a small Jazz ensemble to this film
and using that and orchestra to illuminte the film.

whaddya think people? Is been a long time since Williams done jazz. And wouldnt mind him going back to his
    roots a bit.

As for themes: Heres a few more speculations
Harry Potters theme( it would be anything but resemble Anakin, mostly likey to resemble Hooks theme.)

Quidditch, probably a scherzo based action music for the Official Hogwarts game.

A dark gothic theme for You-know-who?

A mischievious theme for Potter and gang's nocurnal adventures, a mysterious theme for Hagrid.

Neesdless to say the story has many wonderful magical characters like Ghosts, poltergeists, Trols, 3 headed dogs, Centaurs, Wizards, talking animals and so on..
It would be like Star Wars with lot of characters and wall to wall music. It will give Williams to polish up abit more before he scores EPISODE II. I just hope he wont be worn out by then.

As of this moment, he sure has a lot to write for: A.I, Harry Potter and Episode II.

Well, Goodluck Mr. Williams..I know you will make magic once again....

    Amer (POOOF!)

Fantasy? Listen to Scott. Although Tolkien's works are more than just fantasy - they're worlds of their own (or rather, ONE world of their own, this is what makes them so great).

I'll be reading my first Harry Potter novel soon.

Well, I totally disagree with you on the jazz, but pretty much everything else you said is on-the-mark.

It's not that I don't like jazz, I just think it would be totally wrong for this particular film.

I have complete faith in Johnny to score this film. We will undoubtedly be blessed with another fantastic flying theme.

However, it does sound to me like you might be underestimating Williams's abilities. He will deliver the expected fantasy, but I'm sure something will pop up in the score that no one is expecting.

As to this argument about fantasy books, I'm afraid I must say that while all the books mentioned are great, I still believe Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass are THE fantasy novels (okay, so maybe it's not the same kind of fantasy we're talking about, but still).
