Some people already have it, many sites reviewed it, online stores selling it and claim it will be shipped in 1-2 days but as far as asking the knowabout people, they said it's not released yet. What's the story and why is it so difficult to have a release date set? Anyone know.Luc

What?! This score must cost more confusion than any other one that I can remember. Intrada list it as mid October. Anyone got it would like to comment?

I can't make heads or tails of GNP release dates either. Their product is available on their site first before anywhere else, and then it starts to show up everywhere else. According to my resources, the release date is 11/14. However, that could very well change. I see some of the bigger chains list the release date as 9/26, but availability is usually 2-3 days and not within 24 hours, as should be normal with something that was released less than a month ago (according to them).I gave it a quick listen and found it to be quite an Enya knock off with the typical action music familiar with HGW's name and style. Of course, there is more, but this is the 10 second take. To protect myself, what I've said is NOT a definitive "Yes, it's good" or "No, it's bad" - just a little reaction.
Ford will be here to provide plenty of praise soon, after all he produced it!

Peter... HGW or NGS? Last I saw, it was Nick Glennie-Smith on Highlander: Endgame.

I saw the movie and like what I heard. The reviews aren't good but I will still buy it. Some of Glennie-Smith material sound something like The Man in the Iron Mask which I really like. I also like all the Celtic parts to it. Yes, it is Enya like but hey, what Scottish/Irish music dont sound like Enya these days. I hope you're wrong about the 11/14 date Peter because that's a long wait and I've been waiting for this one for quite some time since I saw the movie.[Message edited by lucchung on 10-11-2000]

Most of the Irish melodies are based on songs by Loreena McKennitt. Not Enya.
I got my copy of Highlander End Game in the begining of last month. It appears mine was sent out with the review copies by mistake?I orderd it directly from GNP.

Sorry, NGS. HGW, NGS, NFL, CBS, PGA? What's the difference?Tim, I mentioned ENYA because some of this sounds like Enya. If it sounds like Loreena McKennitt to you, it doesn't mean it can't sound like Enya to me. Parts of it sound like Enya's first album. This is not a fact, so it's impossible to be wrong!

NGS = Nick Glennie-Smith
HGW = Harry Gregson-Williams
NFL = National Football League......ask a silly question....
I find a great deal of difference. But relax, I'm not going to get all Rabid-Fan-PMV on you... (That's Pro-Media Ventures....)
Yes, the critical reviews are bad...but who really cares? John Corigliano says: "The people who hire [critics] don't know anything about them; they hire [critics] simply if they can write prose well. There are no required degrees, no required standards....Any occupation that has no standards and no accountability has great problems. So these critics have very narrow minds about things, and film composing is certainly one of them."
Actually, I see the problems...whether it's "Enya-esque" or "McKennitt-ish"...same was said of "Titanic", and "Devil's Own", and any other Celtic-tinged score...
Footnotes:
J.P. Robinson's "Final Dimension" owes more to McKennitt than "Endgame", and "Bonnie Portmore" is traditional/public domain. (McKennitt did a nice version of it, though, which was featured in "Final Dimension".)"Endgame" is actually a more-than-decent score, despite double-duty on the scoring assignments and choppy album arrangements. Of the Highlander scores, (for those keeping track), it's right behind Kamen's, as far as quality. (There's a certain minimalistic value to Copeland's H2, but then, it was a different kind of movie....)
The liner notes--and the CD presentation in general--are great, if you value that sort of thing...It's nice to see Nick Glennie-Smith get an honest cut, despite his name being removed from the film.
And there's a good hour of music on the disc. I'm enjoying the heck out of it, right now--it balances between slightly edgy rock and haunting themes....(with that "Enya" influence, if you have to call it that. But folks who go for that will love it.)
