I never visit the Filmtracks.com messageboard... but my good ol' friend Dan Goldwasser ( www.soundtrack.net ) pointed me in that direction, and well - look what I found:quote:
Hey Filmtracks guys! I stumbled upon this news out of L.A.:"9/25/00 - One of the 'original big three' film music sites on the web in 1996, MovieTunes.com has been officially dissolved this week.
The site's previous content has been scaled back and moved to a subdirectory of its parent company, Hollywood Online (hollywood.com). While the new sub-site still features an extensive library of audio clips and a listing of trailer music, the company has removed its chat, message board, industry links, reviews for many of its albums, and consolidated its coverage to a focus on 'songtracks' rather than 'scoretracks.'
With MovieTunes joining Filmmusic.com (acquired by Soundtrack.Net) as a finished entry in the history of the web, the only remaining original soundtrack site still active is Filmtracks.com, which recently obtained the rank of "top film music site" by Yahoo!, Inc.
Filmtracks currently shares the majority of online soundtrack collectors with the online presence of the print magazine Film Score Monthly (filmscoremonthly.com)..."
To Mr Clemmensen, congratulations! Your site has been a rollercoaster of fun over the years. I remember when this place was titled with your signature and all your reviews were published on one page. Thanks for your commitment to us!

I figured this might prove especially interesting for those of us (including myself, Peter, Kyp, Kevin, Kosko, James, Alex, etc.) who started out at MovieTunes.

I sorta saw this coming... but I'm just curious. Does this mean that, since most of the reviews are gone, I now have ownership of the reviews I wrote once again? Meaning they could be added to the MM.com database? If this is possible, I may dig through ones I had printed out and see what would make worthy additions to Moviemusic.com.Farewell Movietunes.com. I shall miss the advertisement extravangza which it became.

I've asked "Jonathan Parker" where he got his "official news" but his email address bounced. This person's remarks aren't official at all, they are just his reactions to the real news. The real news is this: Hollywood.com bosses in Boca Raton, FL, fired most employees in Santa Monica last week. They basically designed a new site behind Santa Monica's back, switched it on, and fired everyone in the West. Some management company, huh? There's no need to wonder why I left the company 18 months ago! I could see this one coming from a loooong way off.
It looks like Hollywood.com kept some of MovieTunes intact, except the reviews have been removed and you can't access the site directly through the URL. But, sooner or later, and as I suggested in April 1999, MovieTunes will disappear completely. It's only a matter of time before it gets folded up into "MusicSite," or it goes down with the rest of Hollywood.com (the company's not doing very well at all). There is no one left to update the darned thing.
See ya, MovieTunes, my dear child. To all those who crossed the passage on the Nino, Pinto and Santo Mario, thanks. (Patrick Serediuk? Who?)

can't say I really care all that much that it's gone. I went there only once or twice the whole 2 years I've had internet access.

Hmmm... Peter, whatever happened to Patrick Serediuk? Do you have the old database - can you resurrect some of those guys from "the past?"[Message edited by Jeron on 10-05-2000]

Mark,
I have no clue who this Patrick is, but I have to admit that I'm intrigued as to why you'd never care to butt heads with him again.Shaun

He was an arrogant, condescending, pompous ass IMHO. And I have little patience for that type, especially when they think they know more than you do and they are wrong a majority of the time.[Message edited by Mark Olivarez on 10-05-2000]

Wow. Some news. But, like PK said, not unexpected. But I can say this. After following PeterK (and the others) here, I never participated on Movietunes. In fact, I don't think I've went over there more than 3 or 4 times.

I can remeber when I first got to MovieTunes.com. The funny thing was that the first one I made contact with was Jeron. I remember saying, "Oh you have ICQ, COOL!" From there on, we always talked, then moved to AIM.Back then I was Crono, then Kyp and now Crono/Kyp. Thanks for the great memories MovieTunes, because if you never existed, I never wound have met any of you.

Actually I apologize for my post. I had some exchanges with him on the old site and they weren't ones I would fondly remember. I have a friend who lives in the same area I do and he used to post on the old board as well and had a couple of negative exchanges with him. In fact it's funny his name is brought up because just the other weekend my friend asked me whatever happened to Patrick, well not quite so politely. Anyhow I apologize for coming across strong but some people just leave a negative impression that can last with a person for a lifetime.

I do have some fond memories though. I do remember the Monday nite chats with PeterK, Jeron, Al, Christian from Filmtracks and a few others who would join in from time to time.

Yeah, and I can't wait until we can all start joining in on those chats once again (on a regular basis).

<SIGH> I also remember when I stumbled across MovieTunes. I think I was just looking for generic composer info, and landed there. Like now, I was never one of the "main" posters, but always enjoyed the exchanges. And, like many others, once we migrated over here, I I only went back there a couple of times. Because all the cool kids were over here. Thanks for continuing the ride P.K.

What's always bugged me about Hollywood.com is their damned slogan:Isn't it time you went Hollywood!
HOW THE HELL DO YOU SAY THAT?
It's grammatically impossible!
Any English teacher would keel over at first sight of that phrase!
You start out with the expectation that it ends with a question mark because it is in the the form of a question! WHAT'S WITH THE DAMN EXCLAMATION MARK?What "If it weren't for my horse, then I wouldn't have spent that year in college." is to Louis Black, than this tag line is to me. It grates on my mind as it reapoats over and over in my mind, starting out as a question, then cutting to the exclamation! It's like a train wreck when I move from "Isn't time you..." to "went Hollywood!"
I'm sorry, I had to vent a little.

wow. movetunes is finally gone. i have very fond memories of that place. it was the first place i stumbled upon when i started looking for score stuff on the net back in 96 and where i met my first internet friend (none other than the illustrious jeron - 5 pnts hehe) in 97. i do remember that thing about "if it wasnt for my horse..." haha. oh and what about tha guy who was always talking about vic mizzy lol that cracked me up. and of course Patrick.....i never really wondered what happened to him....i thought he just changed his name to aaron collins...lol j/k. as arrogant and hard headed as patrick was i miss him he had some great discussion and he really challenged me to say precisely what i meant and that i was technically correct. i have only been there a few times since this place opened so i wont really miss it; but i am forever greatful for the wonderful beginings it created for me. thank you movietunes and farewell

Hollywood.com: We hope you like advertisements as much as we like money.
Hollywood.com: If you aren't here, you're somewhere better.
Hollywood.com: We have theatrical advertisements. Kiss our ass, film.com!
Hollywood.com: Hi, um, this is the management and we pissed off our advertising department and they quit so um... yeah.
