Well, a month has passed and now I think it is a good time to get this Party moving!--We are planning this for sometime next summer. As soon as we pick a location, we will start to dicuss dates.
--We are also planning to put on a concert of film music and also some members of this boards' music.
--The locations that have been thrown up in the air are: Florida, L.A., NY, Detroit, and Dallas.
PLEASE EMAIL(ACOLLINSUF@email.msn.com)ME OR POST THE LOCATION OF YOUR CHOICE.
--Also the idea of contributing 5 dollars a month was brought up. This is a good plan I think and the sooner the better. Does anyone have any other ideas?
--Sponsors or Benefactors can be looked into also!
We need to jump on this and the more people that contribute ideas, the more grand expericence we have!
Thanks,
AaronNP: Raiders of the Lost Ark

I'm obviously going to go with either Dallas or Orlando as the location. Flights to Los Angeles cost too much... and how would we arrange a concert in a city where we have no "orchestra" connections? Aaron, you have direct connections w/ hotel and orchestra people in both Dallas and Florida. Organizing an event (convention-wise) w/ discounted prices and the added entertainment only makes the choice seem more clear. The $5 a month plan should be implemented ASAP. It's a good idea, but we'll only see results if we start right away. Those who don't want to bother with the $5 a month might also consider donating the total amount all at once. It'd be less to think about.
Anyway... those are my thoughts. I'm with Aaron, we need to establish a location before we can focus on dates. And everything revolves around the dates... so let's pick a place and get on with it.

I think it should be held in the northwest. Say, Seattle, maybe? That we we western canucks don't have as far to go. I won't suggest moving it north of the border because I know you yanks think we live in a wasteland and I'd hate to disillusion you

Figured I should come out of my "pit of disspear" (those that talk to me, all know now that I have a stalker right? One more thing for me to worry about, god I have my life right now) to answer this. I'm totally down with what Probable (BTW: Welcome to MM.com) Because for me, It's lke to much $$$. If we could get it in Austin, Texas though, I might be able to do that, I have family members that live there, and I could use that as an excuse to see them, sence I've never been down to their house before
Anyway back to studing and worrying about stuff I go.

Oh dear!!If I can be there I 'can' and will 'be'!
I really would love to meet all you people

But anyone who's familiar with some of my other postings will know I'm a very keen hiker, and have already made plans with my hiking buddy to get up to K2 in the Karakoram/Himalaya (this is NOT a joke, I've already been up to Everest twice!) and June,July and August is the best time to go!
Obviously things can change between now and then, so we'll see. Like I said IF I CAN, I WILL!!

thanks for the welcome
It occured to me that this might be an event that could be held in more than one place simultaneously(or nearly so). There could be an eastern party and a western party, for example. Or northern/southern.If it's going to be a recurring event, we could even have one in the winter and one in the summer, to space them out a little. We could arrange it in the style of a convention and call it MovieMusic.Con
...or not. Just random thoughts.

Florida, definately. I'd be the only location I could make, since I live there. Orlando sounds good, but how about Jacksonville? We've got a good orchestra that does lots of pops concerts anyway, plus the prices might be reasonable. I'm biased anyway...I live just outside of Jax.Chris Harben

Just a thought: while I'm obviously in favor of Detroit or Chicago
, flights to Las Vegas are generally VERY CHEAP because they expect you to spend all your money gambling. It's in their best interests to make it easy and affordable to GET to Vegas. Now, if we can all agree not to lose ourselves in bancrupting hedonism ...

That would be too cool, Shaun ...I'm partly leaning towards an East Coast location (e.g. Florida) because I'm thinking it might be more convenient for our European friends (hey, Timchanter, that mountain will STILL BE THERE some other month, y'know!), although probably a hike to Florida would take no longer than a flight to, say, Chicago, which as a centralized location might be most logical as a sort of "middle ground" for us Norte Americanos. Just a thought; for sheer laziness reasons, I continue to shoot for Florida.

Ok, ok, ok... we all really need to select a location. The reason we are planning ahead is that you have an idea of how much this trip will cost. Of course we would all want a place that is feasible and inexpensive for yourself, but it will not happen that way.--Maybe all our Across-the-ocean friends might want to toy around with seeing the cost for airplane flights.
--If anyone disagrees that 5 dollars a month is a stupid idea, then speak up now! I want to start this as quick as possible. I will start off and throw 10 dollars in there now.
--The sooner we select a location, the sooner we can check into sponsors, discounts, concerts, convention centers, etc...
Thanks,

Another thing... As some of you know I am attending the Home Theater Forum's meet one month today. They way we've done it there is getting us all into the same hotel thus gaining a discount on a room cost for everyone, this is an idea to think about. We're also sharing cars...etc, to save a few $$$
Orlando is good for me, if only because I've not been there six years years and would spend a few extra days thee to go to Universal's Island's of Adventure. :-D

Florida might be good for me since I'm in Alabama. That means I could possibly make it (don't know if I really count anyway, since I don't make that many posts here). It would have to be some time before the end of August, but more that likely, I couldn't convince my parents to come or allow me to go anyway.

Dan, my friend, you make a good point in that if we are at the same hotel, discounts could be arranged.I still think FL would be a great place to have it.
REASONS:
*Arrange the party around a shuttle launch.
*The Beach
*Orlando(which consists of Disney, Universal, Sea World, WetnWild, and other great parks.)
*Radisson Resort in Cocoa Beach(I could arrange a discount for the convention center one day and we can possibly plan a bustrip to take us to a theme park.)
*Could possibly arrange a film music concert with an orchestra or Wind Ensemble. Now I need to know numbers and see if this is even worth planning!

Aaron, good points. Combining it with other "attractions" certainly makes it easier to spend the money. I'll put aside ATS 100 for this month, that's somewhere between $5 and $10.NP: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Churchill/Harline/Morey/Smith)

I doubt that I would come to such a gathering as who needs as ex
high school principal used to chaperoning MANY trips with young
people who might forget her place? I’d probably run up and down
the halls at night, pounding on doors yelling, “Bed check! Are you all
tucked in? Anyone who shouldn’t be there in there?”
If I did come, it would be for the following reasons:
1. To shove my face into Marian’s and say, “See, take a good, long look.
I probably look like your mom. Memorize every facet because I’m not
posting a picture.” And I’d tell him I love MUCH ADO ABOUT
NOTHING as much as he does, and that I love him too.
2. To meet some really nice friends I’ve made on the Board.
3. To attend a concert by Jerry Goldsmith, John William, Poledouris,
Bernstein, etc. SERIOUSLY, have any of you given thought to
picking a location where some well-loved composer will be
conducting his music? (Like the L.A. weekenders and Detroit Dandies.)
Seems to me that this event should center upon a composer’s concert.
Maybe one is scheduled in L.A., Seattle, Florida, Las Vegas, Chicago,
New York, Canada, Texas..and so forth. Think about it.NP What Dream May Come True - Morricone

Thanks for the very kind invitation, Jeron. You’re most gracious.
Some of my favorite visitors are ex students from my teaching and principal days.If I attended, I can guarantee that I wouldn’t be “momming” anyone. You’re
adults and on your own. All my life (ALL), because of my upbringing and
profession, I’ve had to be diplomatic and appropriate, and I believe those
are authentic traits of my personality. However, as some of you have
witnessed, I do have a rather closeted, slightly wicked sense of humor that
sallies forth from time to time, especially on vacations. So it is very likely that something like this could occur.
“Has anyone seen Mom Joan?”
Shaun: “Yeah, I saw her with about 1000 five dollar bills in her hands heading
for the nearest male Chippendale live show. I heard her say, ‘All my life
I’ve wanted to yell, ‘Shake your booties,’ at a bunch guys.”Shaun, please don’t take my money. I promise I’m way too straight to yell, “Take
it all off, honey.”
You can even join me at the show, sweetie.
Seriously, the way to capture my attendance is to hold it at a place in
conjunction with a live famous film composer’s concert. Jarre was in Florida,
Jerry was in Detroit, and Williams was in L.A. Anyone know next year’s
schedule?NP Chicken Run

Hey Joan, if there's a Chippendale show in town, it's likely that I'll be IN it, so I think that a conflict of interests (me being a son and all) would be reason enough for you to stay away from the show!On an even more totally unrelated note, have any of you guys ever highlighted a smilie face?
