This was way too long for the other thread, as you might want to skip, so it's here instead. I'd skip it myself, but it's int'resting lore, given when asked "WHAT DOES IRMO STAND FOR?"

It is from the lore of J.R.R. Tolkein, author of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. These works are expansions of a longer mythology he was creating, most of which is found in a book called The Silmarillion,
which begins before the creation of the Earth and was to end with present time. He was a linguist, and I'm told his storytelling arose
from his creation of languages. Tolkein was Christian, and this was evident throughout all of his work. There is a God, there are angels, a "fallen" one, and there are men.

His myth begins with the Iluvatar (the 'all-father' in his language of Elvish), who first creates (angels) the Ainur...

"that were the offspring of his thought . . . and he spoke to them, propounding to them themes of music; and they sang before him, and he was glad. But for a long while they sang only each alone, or but a few together, while the rest hearkened; for each comprehended only that part of the mind of Iluvatar from which he came, and in the understanding of their bretheren they grew but slowly. Yet ever as they listened they came to deeper understanding, and increased in unison and harmony."

The Iluvatar introduced a new, great theme and allowed them to adorn the theme while he listened, and for a while there were no flaws in the music, until one of the Ainur, Melkor, interwove "matters of his own imagining that were not in accord with the theme of Iluvatar" which caused discord. The music became "a sea of turbulent sound", and the Iluvatar introduced yet a new theme. The discord of Melkor arose inopposition to this new theme, until Iluvatar caused all of the sound to
    stop. The Iluvatar said:

"Mighty are the Ainur, and mightiest among them is Melkor; but that he may know, and all the Ainur, that I am Iluvatar, those things that ye have sung, I will show them forth, that ye may see what ye have done. And thou, Melkor, shalt see that no theme may be played that hath not its uttermost source in me, nor can any alter the music in my despite.
For he that attempteth this shall prove but mine instrument in the devising of things more wonderful, which he himself hath not imagined."

He gave them, for their first time, sight, and they saw a new world, called Arda, which seemed to be alive. They saw also the Children of Iluvatar, of whom would be men, and "when they beheld them, the more did
they love them, being things other than themselves, strange and free, wherein they saw the mind of Iluvatar reflected anew" and many of the Ainur "bent all their desire towards that place." The Iluvatar allowed these Ainur, among whom was Melkor, to go to this place, but in so doing they had to choose a form to inhabit, like a garment of a body. Also, they arrived to find a void and formless world. They were at the beginning, and had to realize this vision. The Ainur took forms, some male and some female according to their disposition, and names, and had specific
areas of focus in realizing this world, Iluvatar's vision.

On this world, there were the 12 strongest of the Ainur, who become known as the Valar. The weaker others were known as Maiar. Of the Valar, one, Ulmo, was of water. Another, Manwe, was of air. One was of all things
that grow. Each had his or her function, and some of them companioned as mates. They worked to realize the vision in contest with Melkor, and some who had followed him, working against that vision to cause another.

Of the Valar were two brothers, known as the Faenturi, "masters of spirits". One was Namo, and the other Irmo. Namo was mentioned first,
and initially I thought I'd use his name as my email moniker until I read of his brother, and more notably of his brother's companion. Namo was the keeper of the spirits of the dead, and forgetter of nothing. He knew all things that were to be, save those that lied only in the freedom of Iluvatar.

    Cool.

But not perfect for me. That 'keeper' business didn't relate to my own character, or desired character in any way. Irmo was written of thus:

"Irmo is the master of visions and dreams. In Lorien are his gardens in the land of the Valar, and they are the fairest of all the places in the world, filled with many spirits. Este the gentle, healer of hurts and
of weariness, is his spouse. Grey is her raiment; and rest is her gift. ... From the fountains of Irmo and Este all those who dwell in Valinor draw refreshment; and often the Valar come themselves to Lorien and there find repose and easing of the burden of Arda."

Often the Valar were called by the names of their dwelling places over their own names, so Irmo was called Lorien occasionally. I chose as my username Irmo because of the character of his wife, his realm, and their ministry to the world, and because of his area of expertise. I should aspire to such things as these.

    Lorien is the screenname equivalent.

    God bless you all.

I was thinking you took the name from Babylon 5. You know, the "First One" Lorien that gave Sheridan his life back.

ANYONE who wasn't aware of the background of Lorien's screen name has to go out and get Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings NOW. And read it at least 3 times in a row!

Given the length of his message, I would swear that he's actually Daniel2.

Besides Lorien, I thought you had left and went beyond the rim about 10 episodes into season four.
