I'm going to have surgery in the morning, so for the ride to the hospital I put together a tape and labeled it "Soothing Mix."

What would you have put on yours? Here's mine:

    1) "Rejoice in the Sun" (instrumental) Peter Schickele, Silent Running.

    2) "All the Way" (vocal) James Darren's Deep Space Nine CD "This One's From the Heart."

    3) "Rose's Theme" (piano solo) James Horner, "Titanic: The Ultimate Collection."

    4) "Sooner or Later" (vocal) Stephen Sondheim song on Madonna's Dick Tracy CD.

    5) "More" (vocal) Madonna, again with the Dick Tracy CD. Song by Sondheim.

    6) "There Will Never Be Another You" (vocal) Nat King Cole (as heard in "The World According to Garp").

    7) "Somewhere in Time" (Royal Scottish version) track 1.

    8) "The Inner Light" Jay Chattaway, "Best of Star Trek, 30th Anniversary" CD.

    9) "Crazy World" (vocal) Henry Mancini, "Victor/Victoria" 1982 original soundtrack.

    10) "The Wedding" James Horner "Deep Impact."

    11) "Theme from Star Trek - Lounge Mix" Alexander Courage, "Best of Star Trek Vol. 2" CD.

    12) "Devin's Theme" Lee Holdridge, "Beauty and the Beast: Of Love and Hope" CD.

    13) "Rejoice in the Sun" (vocal) Peter Schickele, "Silent Running."

Any ideas for Soothing Mix, volume 2?

I haven't ever made a "soothin" compilation (yet), but I can tell you it would pretty much comprise the score to The Straight Story by Badalamenti.

eh, maybe a good chunk of Barry, Delerue, and Morricone.

Though I've never made a soothing mix, I would probably use the following:

    1) Schindler's List - Rememberances (Williams)
    2) Dead Poets Socitey - Capre Diem (Jarre)
    3) Little Women - Under The Umbrella (T. Newman)
    4) The Age of Innocence - Main Theme (E. Bernstein)
    5) The Professional - Ballad for Mathilda (Serra)
    6) The Last of the Mohicans - Cora's Theme (T. Jones/R Edleman)
    7) The Living Daylights - Kara Meets Bond (J. Barry)
    8) The Mask of Zorro - The Confession (J. Horner)
    9) Star Trek Insurrection - New Sight (J. Goldsmith)
    10) Mr. Holland's Opus - Rowena (M. Kamen)

There's others..but I can't think of them at the moment.

I havent really given this too much thought, but since I'm listening to it now I would have to suggest just about anything from Vangelis' Blade Runner score, or tons of things by Vangelis in general.

    3. Arose (American Beauty) - T. Newman
    4. Avalon/Moving Day - R. Newman
    5. Fool's Triple (Nobody's Fool) - Shore
    6. Rudy Main Title - JerG
    7. I'm Forrest...Forrest Gump - Silvestri
    8. First Calculation (GWH) - Elfman
    9. You're The One (Circle Of Friends) Kamen
    10. Lonesome Dove Main Theme - Poledouris
(just wanted her to have this)
    11. Never Never (Oscar & Lucinda) - T. Newman
    12. The Trees (we all know this) - Goldsmith
    13. Small Moves (Contact: Gump 2) - Silvestri
    14. Over The Moon (E.T.) - Williams
    15. Trained Seals (Fierce Creatures)- JerG
    16. Relationship Montage (For Love Of The Game; good study music) - Poledouris
    17. Silhouette (Copycat; for the opening of a wrist) - Chris Young
    18. Sentimental Walk (Love Affair) Ennio
    19. Safari (Out Of Africa) Barry (one of Prentiss' favorites, so it had to go on here)
    20. To Kill A Mockingbird Main Title - Bernstein (is there anything more beautiful than this?)
    21. Josh & Vinnie (Searching For Bobby Fischer) - Horner (yes, Horner; we like this)
    22. Change Of Fortune (Incognito) - Ottman
(wanted her to listen to something other than "The Creation")

Thanks for the great ideas, everyone.

As it happened, my sister showed up to drive me in an old junker without a working tape player. Oh, well. I got through it.
