No one forced the bidder to pay that much. The CD does exist, however, I don't think that the majority of the music is by Goldsmith - just the THEME as indicated in the description (which may be the "disaster" JJH was referring to).In addition, the bonus tape in question does exist since I have a copy of it myself. One other thing - I know the person who auctioned this and have nothing but good things to say about him. Please try to know all the facts before disparaging someone.

Hey, I have nothing against the person who auctioned these items or who won it.I just find it a bit funny that somebody would pay $262 for a Christmas CD with the Goldsmith theme, and a cassette tape of the music from the pilot episode... I personally wouldn't bid on an item that said "THIS IS ONLY FOR THE VERY FEW BIDDERS WHO ARE MORONS."

$262 for the Waltons theme?please...
I say it's a "disaster" cuz I personally believe that is WAY too much to pay for one iffy CD. Is this a legit CD? If so, why isn't it on more people's want lists?

Does anyone know how to read? You've taken the "moron" statement out of context. If you re-read the ad the moron reference was to people who bid and don't pay or don't want to abide by the terms of the auction. In other words, read the sentence directly before it, only don't stop for the period. Now does it make more sense?Again, the bidder probably thought that the entire disc was Goldsmith's music. For the record, it's a legit CD of an LP originally released in 1977. The reason why no one would be wanting this is because it's NOT all Goldsmith's music. The theme can be found pretty easily on one of the Television's Greatest Hits discs released by TVT.
It amazes me that people dwell on the prices people pay for stuff on ebay. It's an auction - what do you expect?

All my posts recently are about things that I should've pointed out earlier. Taken out of context, that line I singled out would be terribly offensive, but ultimately amusing to me. Taken in context (even if it's written Jim Cleveland-style), it certainly shows the frustration of the seller.Shaun

That's an awfully violent way to enforce one's opinion. Why not just write him a cleverly scathing letter or make a comment about his ancestry or something?

The disaster with the ebay auctions is that people spent amazing amounts of money for bootlegs with questionable quality.I can mention the infamous(for ebayers)case of a BLADE RUNNER boot which ended for 800$!!! and the most ridiculus case of a John Barry CD which was bought for 400$ while in the meantime it was in the catalogue of a dealer for 30$!!
Not to mention the FRIDAY THE 13th CDRs sold for 250$, or the YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES famous 2CDR set...and many more.
This fraud must stop as quick as possible.

As much as I would agree that this kind of
money is questionable, I think that there are
some interesting assumptions being made here.
1. It was bought believing it was all Goldsmith music or was bought for Goldsmith
music only.
2. Many people on the board seem to thing that boards such as FSM and Movie Music represent the people that are in the collecting business or fans for that matter.
We don,t.
There are many people with LOTS of money
and 262. on a auction, even a questionable
one, is a way to pass the time of day. I,m
sure that it was bought by a nice son or
daughter for their mother who just loves
Christmas and the Waltons and they have no
other way to purchase this CD.I was going to bid 25.00 for it, silly me.

Why is the a disaster?IMHO, it's isn't anything of the kind.
The person who put this item up is being very clear about what he/she is selling and it's THE BIDDERS who set the final price. NO ONE PUTS A GUN TO THEIR HEAD AND FORCES THEM TO PUT IN BIDS AT LAST REPORT.
So long as the saler is truthful about the item and in the case of THE WALTONS they seem to be, Good Luck and I hope he gets even a higher bid for the item before his auction closes.
For some folks spending this kind of money is pocket change.
As other have commented it's amazing that some you seem to "outraged" by this.
The objective of any auction is to get the highest possible price for the item and if someone wishes to pay that kind of mone, who are we to say they're wrong?
It's their money and they can spend it however they want on whatever they please.
And as stated above they are the ones who set the final price tag for this sort of an item, not the seller.
So why would you be upset with that person?
Regards

A. I'm not upset with the seller. If he gets that kind of money, so be it. More power to him or her.B. The bidders are clearly mentally deficient. Maybe it is pocket change to them, maybe it isn't. $262, IMHO is way too much to pay for a darn CD, not matter how much I make.
and if we, meaning the bidder and I, were face to face I would say that s/he was mentally deficient for bidding that much for a CD. Same with the guy that paid $2,500 for Cherry 2000 way back when.
Once again, if someone wants to pay that much, more power to them, too. Must be nice to have that kind of flexibility.
Doesn't change my opinion that they're getting hosed, like these damn idiots that pay $200 for 2CDR set of Williams' complete score to TPM.
C. I recognize the fact that "disaster" is the wrong term to use when pointing out an eBay auction. I will use "calamity," or "catastrophe."NP -- Last of the Mohicans
