Summer 2000 has come and gone. I managed to pick up several titles. So with that in mind, what are the upcoming blockbusters that everyone will be talking about for the rest of 2000?

without a doubt Unbreakable will be a big hit. Wonder how much score there will be. It looks like another opportunity for JNH to get creepy.

I doubt Virtical Limit will be a great film, but it looks like it could provide another thematic action score from JNH, so I will be seeing it anyway.
I'm also curious about James Horner's "Grinch" score.
Men Of Honor will possibly be good as well.

NP: Hot Shots! Part Deux, Poledouris

Vertical Limit sounds like an interesting subject for a good score, set on K2 I guess JNH will be expanding on some idea's he had with ALIVE....or maybe not?!
I hope they get the mountains right in this film, in K2 they filmed in the Canadian Rockies and it LOOKS like the Canadian Rockies, it definately does not look like The Karakoram/Himalaya.

Sorry guy's I'm just very picky about my mountains

    NP : Hoosiers on t.v.

HERE'S WHERE SHAUN HIGHLIGHTS ALL THE "SQUARE" COMPOSERS' UPCOMING PROJECTS

I don't know about you folks, but I'm seriously looking forward to hearing Howard Shore's next score, The Yards (formerly scored by "Pony Tail Boy"). Shore ALWAYS (stress that---ALWAYS) does something interesting, no matter how boring the film (CopLand) may look.

Randy Newman's Meet The Parents looks like fun as well....Thomas Newman is scoring the temp-tracked-out-the-wazoo-with-American-Beauty Kevin Spacey film Pay It Forward....who's scoring Enemy At The Gates? I hope not Gabriel Yared.......interesting that Larry Groupe was permitted to score an A-list film from Dreamworks, Rod Lurie's The Contender....is Carter Burwell still doing Blair Witch 2? Either way, he won't get an album out of it.....is Elfman doing Gus Van Sant's Sean Connery-starring Finding Forrester? Look at all that! No Media Ventures/Horner/JNH! All square, all the time!

    Larry King would be proud....

I've found the year so miserable, score-wise (and to a different degree, movie-wise) that I'm not particularly looking forward to ANY one thing, except the usual hopefuls: Anything Goldsmith, anything Williams (y'know I STILL haven't heard ANGELA'S ASHES because I want to get the non-dialogue version and haven't been able to locate it when I could afford it); Burwell's BLAIR WITCH 2 might be promising (he's one composer I'll usually buy blind), as does Young's THE GIFT. Howard Shore wrote my favorite piece of the year so far, THE CELL, so THE YARDS may be interesting, although its director is underwhelming -- still, gotta love the concept of a thriller about the New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority.

No doubt there are surprises ahead ... every year, there always are.

NP: roomie has something by Fishbone on the headphones. I can JUST hear it. (He bought a whole pile of used CDs yesterday. The only interesting soundtracks at the used CD store in question, I already had. Alas ...)

I'm looking forward to a number of scores yet to be released. I sure hope they can make up for the dismal year it's been thus far for the film score world.

The Legend of Bagger Vance; Rachel Portman - In my eyes, this gal can do no wrong. She's quickly become one of my favorite composers, always churning out simple, but moving scores. Can't wait for this one, as it seems to be perfect for her style.

Unbreakable, The Vertical Limit; JNH - Howard had a great year in '99, and with Dinosaur easily one of the best thus far this year, it doesn't look like he's letting up. These one's could be great.

The Grinch; James Horner - I slap myself everytime I hotly anticipate a Horner score only to be let down. When will I learn? Probably never, because there's always greatness looming in his recent scores...he just needs to bring it out better. Hoping this is the one.

Pay it Forward; Thomas Newman - Man, I just love this guy's style. Ever since Shawshank, Newman's been one of my fav's. Not sure what kind of score will come from this one, but hopefully it's a good one.

Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?, Blair Witch 2; Carter Burwell - This is another composer whose style is instantly recognizable and often imitated. Hamlet is my second favorite score this year...I hope these two are as good.

The Gift; Christopher Young - Along with Bless the Child, this makes two horror scores from Young in ONE year!! I guess he's returning to his roots, so to speak. Though I love his dramatic stuff even more, this guy knows how to write good horror music.

Proof of Life; Danny Elfman - Don't know too much about this film, but it looks like a somewhat interesting terrorist flick. Elfman's been spotty with drama's the last few years, but if Sleepy Hollow (which was my second favorite score of last year) is any indication of how he's writing these days, this one has promise.

NP: Urban Legends: Final Cut (Ottman) ****/5

Um. Blair Witch 2 is getting a score release.

    So there!

The label is "Milan Records", and its being released on Oct 24th. hehe I might see the movie just for the score, maybe not, movie looks dumb, hehe, I laughed through the first one.
