Well I JUST got this score and wow. I've seen the film only once and that was way back when it came out. This score is pretty damn good!!! A few of the tracks are dated but hey!

The highlight for me is the weird electronic motifs that I THINK are transformation sequences. VERY creepy....to me anyway.

Ive listened to it twice already and it gets better and better.

I'm not too familiar with Donaggio's work though. I know he did Dressed to Kill and was wondering if it is at all similar to The Howling? If not should I STILL pick it up?

Any other scores under his belt that ya'll think are first rate???

    peace!!

I just saw The Howling a few months back.

Dressed To Kill is just amazing stuff. Hard to go wrong there. Likewise, I'm fond of Carrie, Don't Look Now, Tourist Trap, and Raising Cain.

There is a pretty side to Donaggio found in gems like Zelly and Me and even Home Movies.

I'd avoid Meridian like the plague. I use my copy as a coaster.

I have Giovanni Falcone--it's OK, nothing special. Then there are a number of Donaggio titles like Up at the Villa or China 9 Liberty 37 that I just haven't heard.

At the heart of China 9, Liberty 37 is an absolutely beautiful love theme... It's worth buying just for that. I see this movie turn up on DirecTV quite frequently. I was floored when I heard Donaggio's love theme.

I second Mr. Goldberg's nomination of the beautiful ZELLY & ME, which shows a whole other side of him.

Ten or so years ago, Milan produced a Donaggio compilation entitled LOVE & MENACE, consisting of suites from his work for Brian DePalma (up through BODY DOUBLE). I think it was reissued under another title.

The Varese CD club compilation of his low-budget horror scores is cool, too -- THE HOWLING is represented, but so also PIRANHA and the supremely creepy, little-remembered TOURIST TRAP.

I put my comments on the FSM board! Do you all go to both? (That may be another topic!)
