Holdridge's score to the documentary film "In The Arms of Strangers" was just released by Chapter III (with a great booklet to boot) that contains about 28 minutes of lovely score along with a number of childrens songs as well

    If you go to: http://www.chapteriii.com/

It has Audio samples, it's one of the most touching scores I've heard in quite some time, very much in the style as his work on "The Long Way Home".

Anyone else pick this up yet?

    Any other opinions?

    Regards

    Ford A. Thaxton

Ford. There is a link off of the main page of this site right to the CD, which has an opinion:

I am glad you like the CD, but I must say that "lovely" and "touching" aren't the best words to describe a score/movie about the Nazi holocaust...

Personally, I feel Lee Holdride is GROSSLY overrated, as he hasn't written any film music. Lee Holdridge is a MUCH better composer.

Don't know Holdride's work, but Holdridge IS superb. In any event, I look forward to checking out these cues.

NP: I'd be playing Holdridge's "Best of" collection as conducted by Charles Gerhardt, if only I'd brought it with me ...

I think I'll put on The Tuskegee Airmen right now...

I have "Beauty and the Beast: Of Love and Hope" on CD, and the music is excellent.

The only problem with it is that the poetry readings come on top of some of the best music. In particular, "Devin's Theme/I Arise From Dreams of Thee" is a superb poem with a superb theme, but when you really want to hear the theme, there's the poem...

Still, from this disc alone, I can see that Holdridge is quite good.

Holdridge has composed some great film scores. I recommend the Gerhardt CD on Citadel to start with if you're not too familiar with his work, but if you want to jump right in, get another Citadel release, Into Thin Air: Death on Everest. There are two excellent promos, one that is the score from The Tuskegee Airmen and another that has The Beastmaster and the pilot score for Beauty and the Beast, both of which I love.
