I know this isn't movie music, but I just had to post this for all of the Goldenthal fans out there. I finally bought The Green Bird today- the 1996 theatre production staged by Julie Taymor based on Count Carlo Gozzi's play. It just recently reopened and thus a nice new album of Goldenthal's incidental music and songs has been released. I'm on my second listen right now, so my words are based on my first impression. However, I think that this is some of Goldenthal's most accessible yet highly creative non-film work.
It's very much in the style of Titus, Cobb, and Batman Forever in the sense that every track seems to contain a new style or genre of music- some even colliding in the same track. It's performed by a chamber orchestra but a large large array of instruments are used throughout the entire production. There are a few songs- but the words "Original Broadway Cast Recording" on the front cover are a bit misleading as most of the music is instrumental incidental music. There are sections that come very close to some of Goldenthal's other works- mostly Interview with the Vampire. Also, track 20 "Adagio" from Titus IS Track 20 "O Foolish Heart" on the Green Bird- the curse of the temp track...

Anyway, there's lot of incredible tracks that are classic Goldenthal- my very favorite so far is "Under Bustle Funk." I encourage everyone who likes the music of Elliot Goldenthal to pick it up. I'll try and get some sound clips up at my site soon.

P.S.- inside of the jewel case contains a green feather...how cool is that!?
