Jeron... To quote the great John Winger, you can party with me anytime... You have some great music to drive in the car to... Jerry's march from Masada. McNeely's Phantom Train Of Doom from one of the Young Indy discs. And Chinatown is a classic Goldsmith score that belongs in every fan's collection.

Well, Jeron. Depends on how much you spent for those Young Indiana Jones discs. Did you get them cheap? You can usually find them used for really cheap. Both in stores and online.

Of course, Chinatown is Goldsmith so it is fantastic, but it is one of those discs that only get a moderate amount of playtime at first and then barely ever make it back into the player. But it is an important score to have in your Goldsmith collection.

Quigley Down Under is one of the best western scores I've ever heard. Two major themes that I never tire of hearing.

    Jerron:

Good selections: I thought the music to A Far Off Place was beautiful---so much so that I am planning on ordering the soundtrack myself this weekend. As for Quigley Down Under, you just can't go wrong. I regard the music as one of Poledouris' best. It is unique, gutsy and one of best western scores I have ever heard. I bought the soundtrack to Quigley 20 minutes after seeing the movie and it is still one of the highlights of my collection.

Haven't heard most of those. But CHINATOWN and MASADA are phenomenal, and QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER altogether wonderful. Don't know the YOUNG INDY stuff, but Laurence Rosenthal is a fine composer. I'm less familiar with, and have never been impressed by, Joel McNeely as a composer (though I admire his conducting for Varese's Herrmann releases), but I believe he won an Emmy for one of those scores, so maybe they're great.

Yes, yes Cole. I know this. I've listened to both scores thoroughly in the past - just never moved on actually purchasing them. Note that those selections have *'s by them... indicating that I'm familiar with 'em. Goofyhead.

    Jeron...my humble opinions:

    Chinatown* (Rutherford, shutup)
Classic...amazing in that JG did this in 3 weeks!!

    The Ten Commandments* (Bernstein)

    Can't comment.

    Young Indiana Jones v.1 (McNeely/Rosenthal)
    Young Indiana Jones v.2 (McNeely/Rosenthal)
    Young Indiana Jones v.3 (McNeely/Rosenthal)
    Young Indiana Jones v.4 (McNeely/Rosenthal)

    You CANNOT go wrong here!!!

    Lover's Prayer (McNeely)

    Cannot comment.

    Urban Legend: Final Cut (Ottman)

I hear this is AWESOME...temp tracked with some Alien stuff...

    The Watcher (Beltrami)

    Cannot comment.

    Ordering tomorrow:

    Masada* (Don't say it, Shaun)

    Superior.

    Quiqley Down Under (Poledouris)

Cannot comment. I usually don't get too many western scores.

    Switchback (Poledouris)

This should be at home waiting for me to listen to it today. I got a bootleg cassette of it a few months ago and LOVED what I heard....I say EXCELLENT choice here.

    Wild America (McNeely)

    No clue.

Sally Hemings: An American Scandal (McNeely)

    No clue.

    A Far Off Place (Horner)

One of my all time favorite Horner scores...different for him...without many of the typical self-plugs he usually throws into a score. This one is original and exciting and just altogether beautiful! the best of the lot in my oh so humble opinion here!!

    Hope that helps, Jeron!

    Joe

    The verdict (yep, it's final):

    quiqley down under (poledouris)
    switchback (poledouris)
    wild america (mcneely)
sally hemings: an american scandal (mcneely)
    a far off place (horner)
    the faculty (beltrami)
    deep water (beltrami)
    masada (goldsmith)
young indiana jones vol. 1 (mcneely / rosenthal)
young indiana jones vol. 2 (mcneely / rosenthal)
young indiana jones vol. 3 (mcneely / rosenthal)
young indiana jones vol. 4 (mcneely / rosenthal)
    chinatown (goldsmith)
    the ten commandments (bernstein)
    lover's prayer (mcneely)
    urban legend: final cut (ottman)
    the watcher (beltrami)

Alright... that just about does it for me for the next couple months. I've basically completed by McNeely and Beltrami collections... and this month is only littered with a couple other new releases ("Gone in 60 Seconds", "The Replacements", the new "Hercules" album, and then a few other loose ends), so hopefully I can manage w/ out going broke!

I've gotta tell you - I didn't plan on getting those Beltrami promos. Douglass Fake sat on the phone with me and TALKED me into them! Well, actually... deep down inside I've been wanting them, but Doug just kinda finished me off.

Ah well... I'll be spending some sweet time recovering from this expense... but I'll have some great music to listen to in the mean time (as if I didn't already have enough)!

Jeron, you've got good tastes my man. Can't go wrong with any of those. The Young Indy CD's are a definete must have in any collection. Why didn't Varese issue any more of these? These are great. Switchback is a killer score and The Watcher is quickly becoming one of my favorite Beltrami scores, along with The Faculty. Get em all. Well, don't forget Gone In 60 Seconds and The Replacements coming out on Tuesday and the new First Blood reissue on the 26th hehehee More tempatations. enjoy!!!!

Jeron, which of these soundtracks have since been sold off, and which do you take with you no matter where you go? Which are in boxes back home in the Texas basement?

P.S. As you may have guessed, the message board search engine is working again (this search was for "Quigley Down Under").

There are over 7 million words on these boards (not counting all the common words like "John Williams" or "fanboy" or "u herd it hear 1st")... a LOT of fun should you take a trip back.... backk... waayyyy baaaaaack.

Cool question, Peter. Actually, they've all come with me - and they're all back home in the Texas basement. I mp3'd all of my CD's before I moved out here to Los Angeles, so my entire collection rests in a 100-cd wallet. I just wasn't willing to move all of that and risk something happening to it... LA being a new place and all. Now, I'd be comfortable having my CDs here, but I'm gonna need more space before I can do that!

    Jeron

P.S. If I had to choose... Ten Commandments, Quigley Down Under, Masada, Chinatown, and the Young Indy discs would have been the ones to make the trip.
