it was a humid friday night right at the witching hour. happy people strolled up and down the sidewalk of decatur street while across on jackson square the tarot card readers told fortunes to enchanted tourists. I took a bite of my beignet and sipped my cafe au lait contemplatively. It was a magical moment, i lit a cigarrette to savor it all....Jeron gave me a bad look. he hates it when i smoke. it didnt matter. i was going to enjoy my trip to the big easy despite jerons misgivings about some of my uncouth habits. we had just spent an hour or so in the virgin megastore and now we were relishing in our purchases at the world famous cafe du monde. i just put $71 dollars on the credit card that my mother pays for that is only suposed to be used for gas and emergencies in order to buy pet semetary, brainstorm, the fury, and the reivers....if that isnt an emergency then i dont know what is. and so jeron and i sat discussing film music over the famous powdererd beignets and cafe au lait as the mystery and magic of new orleans surrounded us. what could be better? i dont know.
it really was an exceptional weekend. i left early friday morning to make the 9 hour journey from nashville to new orleans. i got to meet jerons parents and stay in the luxurious fairmont hotel. saturday evening at jimmy buffets maragitaville resturaunt i drank margaritas with jerons mom and spilled my guts to her about all the awfull things i have done in my life....and she still seemed to like me. then i dragged jeron down to the french quarter to go party. despite the fact that jeron refuses to go out to bars and dance clubs (and also despite the fact that we had a little fight) he actually told me he enjoyed his first trip to a club rather well (maybe he will become a partyboy yet)
i want to thank the moore family for an unspeakably fantastic trip. i hope i can return the favor someday
love

You know, if you ever you're trying to create a warm, sentimental atmosphere, it would probably be best NOT to mention "Pet Sematary."

Now THAT, Cole, is a perfect New Orleans score. Goldenthal's rich symphonic textures captured the grandeur and atmosphere of the big easy. I would have liked it much more if they had put Cole Porter at the end of the OST instead of Guns N Roses...if EVER there was a band that deserved NOT to exist, it's that one. LOL!! You made EXCELLENT purchases by the way. Now I wanna know what all Jeron bought.
<whine> I wanna go now...

Hey! There's nothing wrong with (some of) Guns N Roses! "Welcome To The Jungle" still kicks ass, but "Sympathy For The Devil" is pretty lame.Hey, Cole---ever hear Schifrin's Amityville Horror? It'll give you a whole new look on Goldenthal's Pet Semetary.

As an admirer of Goldenthal from ALIEN 3 onward, I personally prefer to pretend he never did PET SEMATARY ...

Alright Joe... here's what I bought:Of the Bernstein sort: Hoodlum, The Age of Innocence, Last Man Standing (Rejected)
Agnes of God (Delerue)
Gremlins 2 (Varese/Volcano release... yes, already had this one... but the artwork on this version is so much better!)
The Distinguished Gentleman (Cole picked this one up for me in Kansas City... bouncy score by Edelman, nothing masterful, but it remains amusing).
Had a blast... Cole described the atmosphere pretty much down to the dime, though I think he gets into the whole essence of being "in the moment" more than I do. There's absolutely *nothing* wrong with that... I guess I was just too preoccupied with other thoughts to really appreciate it.
Would love to go back, though!

Thus Jeron spake:"I guess I was just too preoccupied with other thoughts to really appreciate it."
Come on, Jeron, you can admit it. Say it with me, "I wined and dined a French prostitute....by 'wined and dined', I mean 'I had sex with her and paid her money for it.'"

Oh man. "Hoodlum" is a GOOD one. I love that score. Bernstein brings back the classic feel of old film music with an atmosphere of glamour and some beautiful themes. Of course, it's for a film that really didn't deserve it. The overture is fantastic. But anyway...What did you think?

Alex, man... Hoodlum is incredible. I've had the mp3z on my computer for about 2 years now... it was time to get the cd. I love it. Highly recommended to anyone who either loves the genre or simply loves good, thematic film music. Definitely a tribute to the classics.Jeron
