Dramatic1)The Thin Red Line - Journey to the Line
Hmmm. Nice but it's very repetitive and may get boring on it's own. It works wonderfilly with visuals though!
2)Prince of Egypt - Burning Bush
I like this theme, it was perfect portraying God's wonders, and the choir was a nice touch. It's a powerful piece. This theme was inspired by the birth of Zimmer's daughter Zoe, and also can be heard in the score to Nine Months.
3)Power of One - Of Death and Dying
I've never seen this movie, and I'm curious as to how the music works. As for the score it's hard to tell what Zimmer composed, becuase a majority of the music is real African Hymns and folk music. So it's hard to tell whether it's his theme or just his interpretation. This particular track is mostly all volcals so I assume that a large majority of it is Lebo's music.
4)Beyond Rangoon - Beyond Rangoon
This is an intense and highly emotional 10 min piece! Beyond Rangoon was my first Hans Zimmer score. I actually bought it because I though the trailer music was on there but it's not but I'm still pleased with it.
If you're in the right mood this particular track might make you cry.
5)Lion King - This Land
This is not Zimmer's theme, it's an interpretation of an African folk song. But I still like it, plus it sounds like something Zimmer would write anyway.
This theme is also on the Millenium soundtrack.
Action
1)Backdraft - Burn it All, You Go - We Go
When I first heard Backdraft I was standing in line at the Backdraft exibit at Universal Studios, and they played the theme on the loud speakers. I really liked the theme, but I didn't know who composed it! My sister and I guessed it was Jerry Goldsmith. (we we're new to scores then :-)
Those two tracks Burn it All and You Go We Go are very dramatic and intense suspense cues that still manage to be emotional at the sametime. I've read that they have inspired alot of younger composers.
2)Crimson Tide - Roll Tide
This is like a super theme.
I can't imagine any person, especially a guy not liking it. The rest of the score is another story.
3)The Peacemaker - The Chase
At 17 min this track is almost a score in itself! It goes on and on without really anything to say. I never did like The Peacemaker that much. Not even when I was watchig the movie. The only portion I like from this track is the last 5 min or so. It's kinda like a cool victory march.
4)Gladiator - The Battle
This is another one of Zimmer's best tracks. I love the heroic motifs and themes, and the action is an improved style to the Peacmaker and gets very intense! Its uses Mars The Bringer of War by Holst and considering the scene this was written for I think it was a good choice. And I'm probably the only person that thinks that Zimmer didn't intend to rip Holts off by saying it was his music, I think he felt that everyone knows where that was music from already.
5)Lion King - To Die For
This good one, very dramatic and full of adreneline. But I like the last 2 min over the first the 2 min. Definetly one of Zimmer's best!
