The Kronos Quartet will be performing live the Philip Glass score to 1931's Dracula at Krannert Center in Champaign, IL on Wednesday October 25,2000. I'm sure this will be done at other venues, but I mention it because it is my home turf.[This message has been edited by Jack (edited 04 September 2000).]

Jack, I won't be able to go to that, but it made me wonder about how many of you think that the Browning film actually needs music...Personally I agree with those who feel it's pretty static as it is. I've seen it here on Spanish TV with a score of unknown origin tacked on, and while some of it was appalling (game show music for the crucifix wielding scenes), other parts seemed to alleviate the deadly stageyness of the later parts.
Is Kronos a good idea?

the more appropriate question is this:is Philip Glass a good idea?
Actually, I think for a Philip Glass score, this Dracula, while not quite as gothic and expressionistic as I might want, it is still a change from the normal Glass output. it's got a little motivic development, rare from Glass.
and the Kronos plays with absolute professionalism as always on the CD. I'd love to hear them in a live performance. Their Black Angels is HIGHLY recommended.posted 09-04-2000 07:48 PM PT (US)

Just wanted to clarify that Glass will be performing with the Kronos Quartet as the film rolls.
