Hey there! I don't know if, like me, you just love John Ottman's work (Halloween: H20, Apt Pupil, Urban Legends: Final Cut, The Usual Suspects...) and whether or not you have been to his website, but this struck me as pretty weird.

He composed an entire score for the movie Cruel Intentions, but it was rejected. Now, he's planning on releasing it on CD which would be nice. On his site, you can listen to the track "Pussy" (the whole 2:19 of it) and when I first listened to it, the first thing that popped into my mind was: this would be incredible as the Main Title music for James Cameron's upcoming DARK ANGEL series. Surely enough, they won't use it (I wonder who the composer for DARK ANGEL is though), but when I heard it it just screamed to me "Dark Angel".

What do you think? Here's the URL: http://ottman.filmmusic.com/projects/features/cruelintentions/index.html

It's touching, modern, sad, and hopeful at the same time.

Incredible composer and incredible music :)

I dug it. Only prob is that at times the instruments used, seem a tad cheasy. BUT if touched up a bit, and add some more power to it, I think it would be a great theme for Dark Angel.

Good theme, though I'd expect something slightly more dark and robust for Dark Angel. The theme is being composed by Joel McNeely - and I'm not sure if he's gonna stick around to do the pilot and subsequent episodes. We'll see. McNeely is a great composer and should do a fine job!

I like the whole feel of that score.
Theres about 16 min of the Cruel Intentions 'R' on a 2CD John Ottman compliation called Miscellaneous Projects that a while ago.

I hope this series is more than just a rip-off of the Faith character from BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. And couldn't he come up with a title that doesn't use the name of the Buffy spin off (ANGEL) that airs at the same time?

The word on the Cruel Intentions rejected score is that Varese is going to release it later this year. All 26 minutes, plus short suites from The Cable Guy and the Fantasy Island pilot episode. Which would make sense. Can't wait to hear Urban Legends Final Cut, with 70 minutes of music this should be a killer score. Excuse the pun. heehehe

I think that "Dark Angel" will last about a season or two. I don't think Cameron can stand the short production time that is needed for a TV series. Heck Titanic was in procution in late 1995 and look when it came out. I really want to see the series and what Cameron can bring to the small screen, but everyone knows FOX needs shows right now.

I don't think James Cameron will be all that involved in the series. I mean, sure... okay, he'll be involved. But Dark Angel is to James Cameron as SeaQuest DSV was to Steven Spielberg. That's my take on it, anyway. Cameron will simply turn it over to a group of individuals he feels is capable of delivering his vision to the screen.
