Hey guys... while in Los Angeles, the guys at Air Edel (Dudley's representation) gave me an Academy Promo of her score for "The Full Monty." While there are 5 tracks on the disc (which are quite good), I was curious if there was ever a commercial release... anyone know?

I was given that and a copy of "The 10th Kingdom," which incidentally have served as my introduction to Anne Dudley. I'm VERY intrigued by her music and would like to know more... What's "American History X" like? "Ancient and Modern?"

American History X is a fantastic score... A powerful orchestral score and I seem to recall some choral writing as well. Go for it!!
Monty had two soundtrack releases. Mostly songs used in the film with a few score cuts. She wrote less than 12 minutes of score, as I recall.

I agree about American History X, but the full power of the score can only be heard and appreciated within the context of this film.

On CD, I find it a bit dull and not worth listening to. But like I said, in teh film it's quite astonishing, because it's nothing like you expect to hear in this rather violent film.

There are several women composers who are good. I like Shirley Walker probably the best. Debbie Wiseman has also done some good work.

Pushing Tin is probably my favorite Anne Dudley score.

There was never a full-on commercial release for "Monty." The only thing that was available was the mostly song-driven soundtrack that had two Dudley cues, and a second song-oriented release that I think had two different cues. What a rip-off. I also really liked the score, but I think the promo you got is as extensive as it gets.

Was she even at the Academy Awards to receive it? I can't remember...

Jeron, if you were nominated for an Oscar for the very first time, would you not attend? I can think of maybe three or four examples in all of Academy Award history (in all categories) where the recipient wasn't there in person to receive their own Oscar.

She won an Oscar for THE FULL MONTY...over David Newman's ANASTASIA, Danny Elfman's MEN IN BLACK, Hans Zimmer's AS GOOD AS IT GETS and James Newton Howard's MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING.

Forgive me for this, but the Academy must've been doing a lot of smack before they voted.

And where is Shirley Walker's Oscar. I don't give a CRAP if she hasn't been nominated (yet); it's only fair.

The thing that ticked me off about The Full Monty wasn't just the undeserved Oscar; it was the use of HATS!

The Academy members just voted for the songs in the movie, not the score. They were, after all, pretty good songs.

Unfortunately, they voted in the BEST SCORE CATEGORY not the BEST COMPILATION OF POP SONGS CATEGORY.

Having said that, I did enjoy what I heard on the Academy Promo, but it wasn't the best choice there.

Although 10th Kingdom is quite good.

I'll always remember that night for the amazingly funny dance number that group uf guys put up to the sound of Men In Black. Amazing Stuff.

However, my sister recorded over the video. Ole'.

BTW - You're mentioning Shirley Walker. I know she's conducted everything under the sun, but what has she composed besides Batman Beyond. And is this as bad as they say it is?

Shirley Walker.......... wonderful contributions to John Carpenter's "Escape from L.A.," and equally riveting score for "Memoirs of an Invisible Man," and a terrific, if not better than the last 2-films, "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" score.

My introduction to Shirley Walker was THE FLASH tv series. Elfman did the theme, she did the rest of the music. She is the first women composer I've found that can write solid action music. She also scored TURBULENCE.

I came across the 'Escape from LA' score last week in a used CD bin. Do you recommend I pick it up.

Is it all Walker's score or is there other stuff too?
