I just saw The Cell, nothin great. Same for the score, it fit the film, but was nothing i would rave of. The Cell pretty much was a let down, granted that some of the dream scenes were beautiful to look at, over all, it sucked.

I must disagree! This was a very imaginative concept. It went all out, not caring how disturbing the audience would find it. Extremely original. As I was watching it, I just kept thinking to myself- this is Howard Shore's type of film.

The experimentalist lends his unconventional writing style with a dissonant ethnic sound. If you've heard plenty of Howard Shore's scores, the lack of a strong theme will likely not bother you. The ethnic sound he brings into the film works extremely well, and just like the film, it's original. Like many Shore scores, I wouldn't buy the album, but it is worth hearing his rough imaginative music along with the chilling film.

This is pretty much the extent of what I've heard in reviews... one critic calls it one of the best films of the year, another calls it one of the worst.

I haven't seen it yet myself; I can't find anyone willing to go with me.

After reading the scathing review in the L.A. Times, I have no desire to see it. Yes, Ebert has called it the best movie of the year, but he has no credibility with me anyway.

If anybody has read the Times review, you know what I'm talking about. It seems likes it's yet another person's attempt to push the envelope and see what they can get away with. According to Turan, the movie is an NC-17 in rated R clothing, and that the MPAA seems to have forgotten they have that rating.

I thought it looked sort of stupid just from the previews. Now I REALLY have a reason not to see it.

It was a very neat LOOKING film, I will give it that, but the acting, writing, and everything else was mediocre. It was original in LOOK, but no substance. For a simple look at film, check it out. Nothing more though. :d

Yeah... very "shallow" plot & story & characters, but it was still very, very cool to see all the fantastic visuals on the big screen. I don't trust Ebert... he a very shallow reviewer in general.

I would've given it three stars... it's not as terrible as everyone says (depending on what you were expecting from the film). This is one of the few reviews I agree with http://movies2.zap2it.com/custom/components/metromix2/contentarticle/0,3106,2550,00.html

Okay, now I must agree. All that I really remember from "The Cell" is visuals. I don't really remember anything else (besides that Shore score). But what great visuals... that Stargher King? Pretty creepy. Oh yeah... and I remember Jennifer Lopez.
