I just got this score in the mail from Amazon today. I hope you like the "Supergirl Theme," because Jerry sure does lay it on pretty heavy.
NP: The Last Run... (the Supergirl theme is still floating in my head, though)

My friend's got the preview (regular edition) DVD and says it looks fantastic, it's THX.
The limited Edition disc set features the 138min versio which has never been released before.

How does one go about getting "preview editions" of DVD's? Is it like with the VHS tapes? I used to work at Blockbuster Video and we would always get advance copies that said "preview copy only" OVER the film and to call a number to snitch IF you'd purchased the copy. Similar?

Supergirl is one of my favorite Goldsmith scores! The overture is amazing to listen to..at times I would rather hear this than Williams' Superman march. The monster tractor cue is thrilling, some of Goldsmith's best action writing. The final track, with the descending brass leading into the end march reprise always gives me the chills.I used to play this cd all the time my freshman year in college while playing games..my roommate got so fed up with hearing the Supergirl march and the "whooshes" that he made me promise that for the last quarter of school I wouldn't play it. Man, I'm glad he moved out :-)

Wow! How funny BobaMike!I'm sure that in college I had SUITE mates that were fed up with the stuff I played. Fortunately they didn't actually live WITH me.
IF I had to (and hopefully I never would have to) I would choose Williams' score over Goldsmith's. BUT!!!! But, I do love the Supergirl score. It almost makes up for the pictures faults....almost. I think my fave track is the one where she's using the bracelet to find the Omegahedron. Even the alternate cue is good.bye4now

My mate runs a respected Superman website, so he got one.

Let me see if I got this right.
It's a double DVD-disc set
But the International expanded versions features the sound in Dolby Mono? WHATTA ......... *GRMBL*Also.... BobaMike..... I do prefer the Goldsmith score to the Williams' overture. John Williams' overture is too pronounced.... it really annoys at time... while his other themes for the movie are certainly excellent (love-theme etc.....) I often see Goldsmith's overture/theme for Supergirl as the INVERSE of the Superman overture/theme.... almost the same amount of musical notes, yet Williams' goes UP.... Goldsmith goes the other way....
Oh man and those swooshes!!! Don't get me started. I really like the alternate Flying Ballet queue. You notice that and how Goldsmith experiments with electronics.

Well, I just transfered my Superman 2 and 3 LP's to cd and was wondering what ya'll thought of those 2 scores? (Was the 4th ever released?) I think they they are merely "ok" and seem to have a soft spot for the opening music of Superman 3.Also where do you rate the SuperGIRL film with the sequels to Superman? ie. better than 2,3 or 4? I have my ideas of what went wrong with the film...what do u think? Certainly the score is the best thing about the film and is 99.9% timeless.

The unseen director's cut running at 138mins was never mixed for theatrical release.
Only the extra scenes are in MONO, about 15minutes.Superman blows away the competition in my opinion. Supergirl is technically very good, but the plot isn't.

Being an avid Superman Film fan, I like any music related to the films.
I recently picked up the Japanese CD release of the 2'nd and 3'rd scores and I think they are charming. Alhtough most of the work is by Williams, Ken Thorne did a good job at arranging his themes and cues. The 4th has never been released and this is a travesty, the music composed by Alexander Courage (featuring some new themes by Williams) resulted in a score that is nearly equal to the first IMO.
