I saw this listed at Screen Archives Entertainment:

STARSHIP TROOPERS (71:00) by Poledouris/ACME MIL 2001 $26.00 VERY GOOD SOUND

Has anybody got this? I'm assuming it's a boot.

no doubt somehow filtered from a DVD or VHS of the movie. must have horrendous sound.

**Warning: once you get this title, you can't trade it!**

(sorry, just a little inside joke, there)

Don't be too sure about "horrendous sound." There are people out there who are figuring out how to break the music tracks free from the DVDs -- and I don't mean the ISO score versions, either. I know at least one person who claims to be succeeding at it, and as Dodge says in PLANET OF THE APES, "where there's one, there's another, and another, and another ..."

Kris, I wouldn't jump on this one too quickly. I believe Intrada is going to be putting out an official expanded release by way of their new "collector's edition" series. Or that's what I've heard...

Well that's nice if they do release an official version, but I wish Intrada would maybe do Predator or Die Hard first. There are many older releases that need to see a legit release. I've been holding off getting the Predator boot for that very reason.

If Screen Archives or Soundtrack Retailers say the sound is good then it usually is. They normally list the sound quality if it is bad. Intrada will do the same.

Tim, I realize Intrada is releasing Switchback... but I heard Starship Troopers was on the list as well. And Mark, if that is within the realm of possibility, I'm sure Intrada is looking into Predator and Die Hard as well... but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Don't hold your breath! Varese Sarabande has the rights to STARSHIP TROOPERS, so you won't see an expanded release of that, legitimately, any time soon.

PREDATOR and DIE HARD have 100% reuse tied to them, so I wouldn't expect to see those any time soon, either.

Then how did LIS get a re-release so quickly w/ TVT holding the rights to Broughton's music?

I am probably wrong about Troopers... but I REALLY think I heard that somewhere. Regardless, it IS a nice thought.

Well I ordered a copy of Starship troopers expanded. It was sent out to me today so i'll let you know what it's like. I talked to Craig at Screen Archives and he said it's pure score. It was not isolated from a dvd with Sfx. He said it has very good sound.
    So we will see.

Well I got the Starship troopers expanded cd today and it's great. Alittle over 71 minutes. With perfect sound. The only thing bad about it is the cheap black and white looking cover and the track titles are all most all wrong. Other than that, if you like the score I would pick this one up

Regarding LOST IN SPACE, we had a special agreement with TVT and New Line to do the expanded release.

Since I handle marketing for Intrada, I can
assure you that there are no plans for an
expanded STARSHIP TROOPERS. You can imagine
that competition between Varese and Intrada
is a little stiffer than between TVT.

I have the extended score to Starship Troopers & I'm not complaining, but I know for sure that there are 2 pieces of music from the movie that are not on this extended CD: The Roger Young's departure
The death toll scene for Buenos Aries

    Comments please, thanks.

Who would forget these 2 tracks anyways? (Departure of the Roger Young, Buenos Aries destroyed) I think their played a good part in the film. And I hate to admit it too but I purchased this CD for only a few tracks including those 2. Will there be a CDR in the near future?

Someone that I know via net has the complete score to Starship Troopers. It's a 2-CD CDR. The price is pretty expensive. He said the sound is ok. I'm still considering purchasing it. Has anyone here have this CDR 2 set?

Okay, here's the skinny on my copy of the Starship Troopers boot...

Well, it's not a CDR, it is a real CD. It's actually a picture disc, with a badly centered picture of Basil Poledouris on it.

It is cased in a regular jewel box with a nondescript black and white label that says Starship Troopers, then "Mas Musica!." It has a picture from the video release of the film (in black-and-white) and in small letters it says "Admit One!" on the bottom left-hand corner.

The back cover has the track listing under the banner "Mas Musica!..." and on the bottom it says "Compliments of Acme Productions," "'For Promotional Use Only'," and "We do the best with what we have!" On the bottom it states "Basil Poledouris!"

The sound is excellent, definitely one of the best bootlegs I've ever heard. Varese's is warmer, with better definition, but the difference is so miniscule it's barely even worth mentioning.

The track listing is as follows.

    1. The Beginning
This is the "Fed Net March" as heard on the Varese album, but it doesn't seque into the "Klendathu Drop" cue, instead it just continues as heard in the film.
    2. A Year Earlier
    3. Jump Ball
    4. Last Dance
    5. Federal Network
    6. Sgt. Zim
    7. Showers
This is "Punishment/Asteroid Grazing" on the Varese album.
    8. Number 2 Chair
This is "Fed Net March" and "Klendathu Drop" as heard on the Varese album with crossfade and all, just without the track mark between the two.
    9. Live Fire!
This is "Tango Urilla" on the Varese album.
    10. Punishment
    11. Evasion!
    12. A Call Home from Rico
    13. Federal Network
    14. A Mistake
    15. Kendathu Assaulto!
This is the track "Hopper Canyon" on the Varese album.
    16. Retreat
This is the track "Bugs" on the Varese album.
    17. Federal Network
This is "Dizzy's Funeral" on the Varese album.
    18. The Ticonderoga
    19. Rasczak's Roughnecks
    20. Tango Urilla Mop-Up
    21. Fun Order
    22. Flying Bug!
    23. Whiskey Outpost
    24. Ambush at Planet P
This is the track "The Destruction of the Roger Young" on the Varese album.
    25. Abandon Ship!
    26. Hostilities
This is actually the end credits suite as heard in the film.
    27. Rescue Party
    28. Brainy Bug
This is the track "Brain Bug" from the Varese album.
    29. End
    30. Suite of Themes
This is the track "They Will Win" from the Varese album.

I'm not too sure of the accuracy of the track titles. Tracks 26 and 30 are obviously mislabeled, and a few of the other tracks sound a bit odd when compared to the music on the track itself.

Many of the additional tracks are less than a minute long. The disc duration is almost 72 minutes (more than doubling the amount of original score available on the original Varese album). Overall, this disc gives a much fuller representation of the score than Varese's album did; this is one score that the re-use fees damned to thirty minutes that was never meant to be heard with such brevity.

Ok I was going to purchase the expanded Starship Troopers & I found out some info:
the departure of the Roger Young & Buenos Aries destroyed are not on the disc, AND
there is a complete 2-disc set out there. So I would like to know who is selling the 2-disc set? Thank you Swashbuckler for the track listings. This is bad but I really want that 2-disc set. Please let me know thanx.

Hey, absolutely, no problem... actually, if you do find it, please post the track listing as well (I really enjoyed this score when I saw the film, although my initial reaction to the film itself was lukewarm at best).

If anyone can come up with a better, more accurate track listing for the CD I have described, I would be most grateful; the track titles do not seem to have much to do with the music as it appears in each cue.

Someone once did this before with the Soundtrack Library's edition of Capricorn One.

I think since there are so few labels out there who are willing to devote a majority of thier business to to Film Music that you guys should all collaborate.
    Since competition only complicates things.

Unfortunately, that kind of agreement could be considered monopolistic, depending on what is agreed to.

For example, if Varese, Intrada, and SA all agree that all FOX movies are going to handled by Varese and that none of them will bid on the rights to do scores, than Varese can lowball Fox and set the price at whatever level they choose because they know that thier "Competitors" won't competite with them. This would probably constitute "Price fixing". Very illegal.

Consider also that such a agreement would not only discourage other startup companies from getting into the business but would also make it tough on composer labels like John Scott's.
