Someone may have already asked this, but I probably missed it while I was away this month.

What are your nominees for "best score" so far this year?

So far I only have 4:

    1. Dinosaur (Howard)
    2. Love's Labour's Lost (Doyle)
    3. The Patriot (Williams)
    4. Titus (Goldenthal)
    [5. Hollow Man (Goldsmith)?]

    Other thoughts?

I happen to be making a list of my favorites scoresthis year, so I can give mine so far:

    Dinosaur (Howard)
    Mission to Mars (Morricone)
    The Perfect Storm (Horner)
    The Patriot (Williams)
    X-Men (Kamen)

I haven't decided which one's the best yet and I'm sure there will be others added later on.

    My list is as follows:

    Dinosaur,
    Gladiator (don't even say it).
    The Patriot

    Honorable mention, Mission To Mars

and I just kinda, sorta know The Hollow Man will join this prestigious group.

The only score from this year so far that I would put on this list for sure would be Mission to Mars. Chicken Run could join my list if it holds up against the competition later on. Ditto for Dinosaur, but I like Chicken Run better. And perhaps X-Men if it continues to grow on me.

But keep in mind, people, that there are still 5 months of scores left this year, including that surge of annual Oscar hopefuls we get in the fall. Considering that, Mission to Mars is the only definite one on my list so far. Sadly, I think its chances of nomination are slim.

The best? Morricone's "Mission to Mars" till now...

The worst? Zimmer's "Gladiator" by far.

I know there are still some months to go. I think if Horner gets a nomination it will more likely be for that grinchy movie in the Fall.

Personally, I am kinding of hoping that "Titus" or "Love's Labour's Lost" end up on the "sleeper" list kind of like "The Red Violin" (an excellent score) did. LLL should be nominated for grammy's at least in the arranging department.

    Best by far-The Patriot

Easily the worst and most inappropriate-Mission to Mars (what the heck was an organ doing during a tense scene????)
