Did I miss something these last few years, or is this a recent new release? I was in Borders today and found a special edition copy of Morricone's ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA, featuring additional music; the album was produced by Nick Redman on the Restless label, which I gathered from the packaging is a subsidiary of BMG (or was that RCA Victor -- I can never get these companies straightened out accordingly), and a big white sticker left nothing to the imagination that this CD was made in Germany, or imported from Germany, or both, I can't recall. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Yeah, I know what you're talking about Rang. It was that imported expanded version that came out about a year or two ago, that was supposed to be released here in the US, but still hasn't. A shame too, because it's a brilliant score. Definetly one of my favorites by the Maestro. I'd love to have the expanded version but since I have the original edition released on Polygram and the expanded version is only alternates and stuff I'll stick with this one. Does anyone have this one for trade?P.O.

Lots of people overlooked it, but as it is an import, if one's not accustomed to buying imported CDs, it's easy to forget it was released. I never looked into the details myself, as my French copy on the Mercury label always satisfied me. How much extra music is there?PeterK

Peter, I don't think there were more than three of four new tracks.

Hey Peter, there are 4 new remastered tracks which are:Suite from Once Upon A Time In America (which runs 13 minutes)
Poverty (temp version)
Unused Theme
Unused Theme (Version 2)I'm really curious to hear those tracks for the sake of curiousity and the fact it's one Morricone's great accomplishments in film scoring. I love this score. The movie is really underrated and brilliant as well.

Isn't there 2 disc set which features the first 2 dollars scores and Once upon a time in the west?I might pick this up instead of the expanded release if that's the only way to hear the Dollars scores.

I too love this score! I only wish I got to see this film in the cinema - I remember watching the (almost never-ending) video one evening completely enthralled. I read later that the director's cut would run at at least 9 hours - and that there were other characters (including, I think, Louis Fletcher) who were completely cut out.
I also heard an interesting theory that the whole scenario is in the mind of De Niro's character as he lies back and reflects in the Opium den with that damn phone ringing in the background.
