Can't remember if I posted something like this before but I am seriously praying Nobou Uematsu gets the job for this one. I don't see anyone else fitting the job description. Unless I can be persuaded.

Haha, you guys crack me up. We'll let this just be your own little thread.
Uematsu should get the job, as his music is perfect for this type of project (obviously). Though, I wouldn't mind hearing an Arnold, Williams, or Goldsmith approach. That would be an ideal scenario.

I was really blown away by Final Fantasy VII when I got that for X-mas 3 years ago. Couldn't stop playing it for about 6 months, the game was so addictive. As fior the music, it was great in the game, in that context.
Not to slight Uematsu's talent, but I don't see that kind of music flying too well on the big screen. Too cheesy. but then, that's the only game score of his I have heard. I really liked the finale music. Was that his original music, or someone else's ? it was a completely different in style from the rest of the score.NP -- Chris Young, "Copycat"

Hmmm. Final Fantasy the movie, eh?This I'll see.
Although (And I'm bound to get jumped for this), I disliked FF7 and FF8, I loved the original 3 games for the good ol' Nintendo and Super Nintendo. Yes, I played those for weeks on end, sleeping only when absolutely neccesary.
Anyway, as much as I appreciate good MIDI music, (And I cheered when I saw "MIDI Programmers" in the credits for "Pokemon"), a great epic fantasy film needs something more lengthy and themish, know what I mean?
Video Game MIDI composers tend to write shorter pieces, just writing whatever comes to mind, then try to find places to insert them into the game.
"Hmm, I just wrote this funny little sherzo type piece, I think I'll put it in when the main character meets the dancing leprechans. Yeah, that'll do the trick."
Other times, they improvise to the moment, then let loose with the few themes they've constructed for major characters.
I must admit, the music from FF3 was a great inspiration to me. I listened, and expanded my style. People are always telling me that my music sounds like it would be great for a Final Fantasy game. I say. "Yeah.... Whatever."

While I'm saving my final opinion for when a composer is officially announced, I want to adress this to those who say that Uematsu wouldn't be right because of the way his music sounds in the video game. scoreing a video game is different than scoring a film. your music most likely has to be something that can 1) be looped over and over again, and 2) not take the player's attention away from the game play. So basically, I wouldn't discredit him until you've heard what he can do for a film.
