    Hey all,

Well I've been looking and looking for a copy of Jones' DARK CRYSTAL and the closest I've come is NAPSTER. Most of the tracks are numbered but there is one that I downloaded that says "remastered" (and it does sound fantsatic!). Can someone tell me what and where this is from?
Who released it on CD? Is it AS difficult to find as I'm having? Is it considered a Jones masterpiece (I do love it more than the film itself)?
I've found 13 tracks on Napster...are there more???

    Thanks in advance!

aren't these strictly ripped from the isolated score on the DVD ?

If so, that's more fodder in the case against Napster, allowing bootlegged material to be downloaded.

Yes, meegle, there IS an isolated DVD score. It's not perfect, however, as several cues fade in and out before completion. The sound is very good ... it's probably what the track meant by "remastered," as the only other available version is a bootleg taken from the LP release.

The original LP release has some advantages over the film mix of the score. Mainly the fact that it includes music not used in the film, along with some truly killer "album versions." Ideally, you'd want to combine the LP version with the isolated DVD score. I'd be happy to give you some tips ... or track lists, if you want them. Just post a response here if you want more information.

    Kewlness WEDGE!!!

Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure where to put the "remastered" track. It kinda sounds like an opening to a film but I haven't seen the film in a long time!!!! I got 13 tracks off of Napster and they range in volume greatly but I can manipulate that I guess. The remastered track is 6:30 minutes long.

    Thanks!!!

Hmm ... according to my track list, NONE of the tracks are that long, with the exception of the 16 minute long finale/end-credits. It could be a section of that, I suppose. I STRONGLY recommend you rent the film. It's fantastic!

Just for future reference, here's my master track/time list. All cues are taken from the DVD, except where noted. And no, please don't write me asking to trade for a copy, because I haven't actually made one, just compiled the info. The music here would require two discs, and some volume equalizing.

Love Theme (3:17) FROM THE LP
Finale [alternate: no vocals] (2:38) FROM THE LP
"The Dark Crystal" Overture (3:10) FROM THE LP

Hope that helps! It's far from perfect, with lots of cues fading in and out as they do, and the unused material from the LP, it's painfully obvious Jones wrote much more music than even made it into the film. I desperately hope we'll see an official release some day. (This is one of the top ten scores that needs one! And evidently, Jones himself has expressed interest in creating a promo.) But until then, this is the best we can do.
