This was an interesting tidbit I ran into while looking into one of my favorite composers and the Question is this:
What composer wrote music for a big movie in the 30's and then wrote the score for the
remake in the early 60's?
It is a slightly trick question for the song
on the original was popular but uncredited.
A couple of hints are that he wrote songs
and did music for musicals and loved composing for beautiful women. The movie I,m
thinking of here is not a musical by the way.
I,m still trying to find out if a composer
wrote both the original and a remake for a
movie and this is the best I,ve come up with
so far.

This is a 2nd day hint:
1. He did not do most of his own orchestrations.

Not even a guess yet for movie and composer, well, hints for day #3.
The original movie composer credited in the
30s movie is Herbert Stothart. He wrote
music for an important Liz Taylor movie.

gotta be Bronislau Kaper.Scored Butterfield 8, as well as an uncredited 1930s version of Mutiny on the Bounty. Also scored the 1962 version of Mutiny.

Thank you, Thank you, Song of Tahiti was the
music from 1935 Bounty and of course the great score from 62 I think. Wish there was
a good orchestral compilation of this composer. His strong themes are 2nd to none.
Just got Home From the Hill score.

Credit must go to the Internet movie Database, for help in finding my research.
I just searched under Elizabeth Taylor, remembered someone once mentioned Butterfield 8, looked under that title, and voila! I see Bronislau Kaper, and noticed the matching Mutiny's.
Back off man, I'm a grad student.More Trivia:
did you know that I have exactly ZERO of his scores?
What LPs, CDs, re-recordings of his music exist ?
please enlighten me, a member of the great unwashed, at least where Kaper is concerned.posted 07-16-2000 07:18 AM PT (US)

I presently have CDRs made from
Lord Jim lp
Mutiny on the Bounty lp
Home from the Hill from taped CD and
a cd of his themes played on the piano by
Mr Kaper.
Was it you that I sent a CDR with the Butterfield 8 theme on it. (Gloria)

'twas indeed I.Of course, I promptly lost the CD -- which was the one with the song/ instrumental versions of movie themes.
