Thanks Hal!I didn't know a person could salivate this much.
Goldsmith fans just SHOULDN'T go a whole year without being given a new Jerry score! It's torture!

This is going to sound egocentric-But this score is released on my birthday- my girlfriend think it's a cool gift idea, and it rivals the time when Goldsmith's score was released from Air Force One, which opened on July 25th in 1997. I don't know what this means, but i'll guess I'm blessed. One way or another, for better for worse, I'm connected to Goldsmith's music. I can think of only and handful of things that are as cool as this simple pleasure.
Except maybe getting to see him concert someday. It's sad that Goldsmith, Williams, Zimmer, and (ok) even Horner don't come down here to Dallas. We're a major city, I think we deserve a concert conducted by them! But I digress...
I've read the first six pages of the script for Hollow Man- it is going to rock! And it's going to be bloody.

Well, I found the 'Hollow Man' screenplay on Scrip-o-Rama recently and could't resist. I just had to read it! And let me tell you: IT ROCKS! If Verhoeven and Goldsmith do it justice (and I have no doubt they will) this is going the be the most brilliant film/score of 2000. And I can already tell you that 'The Elevator' will be THE SINGLE GREATEST FU-CKING action cue of 2000!To quote the screenplay: (spoiler warning)
"THE EXPLOSIONS roll toward the OPEN ELEVATOR. Slamming into it... The elevator flies upward.
INT. ELEVATOR SHAFT
The rumbling worsens. LINDA and MATT desperately cling to the ladder. They look down to see...
The elevator...
SURROUNDED BY FLAMES flying up toward them, lifted by the explosion's SHOCK WAVES.
LINDA
Oh God!MATT
Don't look. The carriage accelerates toward them, faster and faster. Its loose cables whip around the shaft, slapping the walls around the pair. It's gonna hit them! Linda pulls herself close to the ladder and closes her eyes. She's pressed against Matt. The elevator... 50 feet... 40 feet... 30... WOOOOOSH! It flames RIGHT BY THEM. When Linda opens her eyes, the elevator is HUNDREDS OF FEET ABOVE THEM and a wall of fire is below them, closing in..."

Not only should it be a great cd, but also it'll be cool to check out the new DSD.In fact, even the score itself debuts new technology having been the first soundtrack recorded using the revolutionary new DSD (Direct Stream Digital) encoding technology. DSD samples the musical signal at a phenomenal 2.8 million times a second! The result is an extremely smooth digital waveform with unparalleled frequency response and dynamic range. What does all this mean? Wait until you hear it!

Does anyone know if Varese bothers to answer e-mail? They never respond. A bigger company, Sony, answers e-mail. Denon answers e-mail. Intrada answers e-mail. But Varese is too busy.[This message has been edited by mlw (edited 13 July 2000).]

Practically the only summer movie I'm looking forward to, and it's not just because of Goldsmith. Verhoeven loves pushing those envelopes, and what little I know of the picture is already amazing (I managed not to read the spoiler-section above, and think I can stop myself from checking out the online version of the script.)

The only thing about this movie that excites me is the Goldsmith score. Verhoeven's work can be very good, but he's uneven, and the concept of The Hollow Man is pretty lame, unless I'm missing something. I mean, come on! We've seen this Invisible Man shtick done a thousand times!
"I'm going to risk everything and try this formula on MYSELF!"
"OH NO! I'm invisible, and there's NO WAY BACK!"
"Wait a minute! This is GREAT! I have the POWER!"
Only this time it's Kevin Bacon instead of Claude or Vincent or whatzizface on the Sci-Fi Channel.
Believe me, I really hope I'm WRONG about this, because I'd like to rock with the movie myself...but so far I'm not convinced it's anything special.NP:LifeForce Mancini

I fired off an email to Varese back on July 2... no response yet.I think I'll write a real letter and let them know my feelings about this. We all spend quite a bit of money for their 30 minute releases and it would be nice if somebody could take 30 seconds to answer our questions.
