Just looked through upcoming dvd's at DVDEXPRESS.COM for iso scores and there's more on the horizon.

    28 Days
    I Dreamed Of Africa
    The Craft
    The Professional
    The Ninth Gate

Is anyone familiar with I Dreamed Of Africa? And what about 28 Days?

I have both I Dreamed of Africa and 28 Days and I must say that they surprised me. I actually want more of I Dreamed of Africa, it's such a beautiful score by Jarre. I reminds you of the way he used to write before he went into his electronics binge. there's about some 50 minutes on the Varese album but I can imagine there's more.

28 Days is nothing special. it's mostly electronic with a few Danny Elfman riffs that don't work period. I regret buying it since there's only 20 plus minutes of score and a few lousy songs. Not worth it.

I Dreamed and The Ninth Gate are the real gems from those isolated scores.

The only DVD's I'm looking forward to when they come out are The Hollow Man. It's Goldsmith what can I say so a definete must. On The Sixth Day the new Arnold Schwarzenegger thriller coming in November that's being scored by David Arnold. Charlie's Angels scored by Edward Shearmur.
Final Destination by Shirley Walker, hopefully Frequency by Michael Kamen,
And Yes, most definetly John Williams The Patriot.

The Professional? That's already out, isn't it? Or are they putting out the director's cut that was shown in Europe in 1996 with something like 40 minutes of deleted footage? I'd love to see that version.

I didn't think there was going to be a commentary on there. In fact, I didn't think there would be any extra features at all! Just thought it'd be Leon.

Great news!! I started to by the DVD a while back, but when I read it had been re-released in Europe with almost a half-hour of additional footage, I decided to hold out and hope they would eventually release that version on DVD.

Looks like my waiting is over.

Hmmmm.....I wish they would release movies with more interesting scores isolated. No offense to anyone, but those movies aren't exactly ones I plan on purchasing or even watching in some cases. Oh well you gotta make sure you please the masses with a little of everything.

True, while these may not be the greatest scores to get an iso release on DVD, the fact that more and more are being done gives hope to more and more better ones. At least I'm hoping.

Can anyone confirm an iso score on the Rudy DVD? I am aware that there will be a Goldsmith commentary track, but an isolated score? I am happy with the score album... just interested.

Once DVDEXPRESS has the picture up for this dvd, you can click on it and you'll be able to see the back cover. I double check these a lot against they're description, but they haven't been wrong so far.

Sebulba, thanks. I will keep an eye out for this graphic. Have I just missed it, or has anyone not mentioned this latest Goldsmith commentary track? How many times to we get a Goldsmith commentary track?

Next question. Forget about isolated scores... becoming too popular. Anyone have a complete list of DVDs featuring composer commentaries? Blade is one... Next?

    PeterK,
There will NEVER be a better isolated score with commentary than Randy Newman's for Pleasantville. It's 20 times more entertaining than writer/director Gary Ross'. If you guys haven't heard it, go get it right now! Great commentary, great score.

Edited to thank Sebulba for making me the CD of the isolated score. You're a good man.

If you go to DVDEXPRESS and select power search (on the left side under search), on the power search page at the bottom, you can select Separate Film Score Audio, and it'll list all of the dvd's with iso scores. Then you just have to go through those to see which have composer commentary.

The Matrix is the only one I was aware of (do I see a pattern here?).

Next question: I've never seen or heard Rudy. How is it, score-wise (ok, stupid question - Goldsmith!) and movie-wise? I might just get it for the score/commentary track alone.

PATTON had a Goldsmith commentary track and ISO score on the laserdisc ... haven't checked out the DVD, but I'd expect them to be the same.

oh, for a commentary on STAR TREK - TMP ...

That does it!! For now on I'm not buying any older Tri-Star titles until I know that a special edition is being released. I'm tempted to get Fifth Element, First Knight, Glory, Legends of the Fall, and Bram Stoker's Dracula on DVD. They are all Tri-Star titles. I'm already getting screwd over on the Craft. I'm not letting it happen again. Never again will I fall for buying multiple copies of one movie just for an added feature. I'm just gonna wait for all the features to be released I'm lucky I waited for Little Women, hehe.

    PS,
Anybody know if they are planning on releasing Scorcese's "The Age of Innocence?" It really needs to be letterboxed and cleaned up. Not to mention an isolated score!

doesn't The Corruptor feature a commentary by Carter Burwell ?

If no one has the Patton DVD yet you should be shot. Jerry Goldsmith has a good chunk of time on the documentary on Schaffner. Plus, the score is isolatesd, and at the end you hear the recording sessions with Goldsmith and some producer trying to work with the echoplex. It's VERY interesting. and you get a good flick as well.

    Aaron,
Of the titles you mentioned, I'm sure they'll all be reissued (well, maybe not First Knight), but the ones that are definately coming are Glory and Bram Stoker's Dracula. I was unfortunate enough to have purchased Glory a WEEK before they announced that they'd be doing a special edition.
Oh---what's this with Goldsmith commentary tracks? Do you mean isolated scores, interviews, or what? I didn't think Patton had a commentary at all, let alone one by what's-his-head.

let me clarify your Rutherfordness (doesn't quite roll off the tongue does it?)

The Patton DVD doesn't have a running commentary. Just that the documentary on Schaffner has quite a bit with The Pony-Tailed One discussing his score, Schaffner, etc. It's quite a bit actually.
I don't think the movie has a running commentary. The doc also shows bits and pieces of the maestro's own handwritten score. Pretty cool if you ask me.

yep, it's two years since I even saw the laserdisc played, so I'd forgotten that Goldsmith's commentary is in the Schaffner documentary section, not a running track through the film. I'd forgotten the "echoplex demo" as well.

I agree about Dracula. The score and the cinematography were the only reasons to watch this film.

Patton's isolated score is under the documentary, but if you have the FSM disc, you have all of the score.
