Yep, you heard right! Now, when you've got a website you want to promote, there's a forum just for you!

Imagine, a forum full of links to this and that, without all the movie music chit and chat.

If you've seen shameless plugs and links disappear from this General Topics area, that's where they've gone... to web surfer heaven: Shameless Plugs & Links

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming....

I'll be the first one to admit posting such items, however I do have a question.

What do you hope to accomplish by doing by shoving all of these messages into a forum that won't have a tenth of the traffic of this one?

    It's a fair question Peter.

I'd like to hear the answer.

    Ford,

Sure, I am the person who clicked all the buttons to make the forum, but I am not the person who wanted it.

After receiving several emails concerned about the message board turning into a magnet for external links about this new site and that new review over at whatever dot com, I built a forum made exclusively for that kind of thing. I even went so far as making the MovieMusic.com Internet Directory. Many people have asked where the MovieMusic links section was, and until now, there wasn't one.

Back to the message board: apparently, most people come to this message board for discussion, which is what I find most gratifying. This is what this place was set up for.

A tenth of the traffic? This is naive and subjective banter. I won't address this.

I leave the rest of the vote to the folks who participate in this board. What do you think? I made the forum because many of you contacted me regarding this issue. Just as when you contacted me regarding a "Just Movies" forum, I pushed the buttons and built the forum, and it thrives.

So, why the fuss? Is this just a Ford problem? Cast your vote, that is, if it's critical for survival.

    Speaking of Shamless plugging-

Ford, I had a question. i notice you're doing a lot of work with promo releases and special re-releases. I was wondering if you 'd be interested in hearing some new music. I recently put a small private release together and I'm finishing up another CD at the moment. The music is very much like film music by influence, jazz in others- but I'd be interested in getting some opinions on it from someone who works in this industry on the inside. I'm sure I'm not quite the level of Goldsmith or anyone else, but I think it would be a fun experiment to find out. Perhaps we could discuss sound samples or a shipment of the promos. Let me know what you think.

Widescreen, congratulations on all the work. Along with everyone else, I can't wait to hear your work. Gae, Aaron Collins, and others. We've got a regular MediaVentures gang here!

Do you have any mp3 samples?

    PeterK

P.S. Where have you been? I haven't seen many posts from you for a long time!

Personally PeterK, I think the way you have it setup is fine as it is. And for all the, "come visit my web page" posts, they shouldn't be put on the general forum IMO. Well at least now, since you made this new forum. Actually I think that type of stuff should be put into the profile pages.

Either way, Updates and important info should be put in the new forum you made. However in case of something really important, than go ahead and add it to the general forum. But in most cases there is no need to do that.

One question though, do many read the other forums? I read only the main one myself. Though wouldn't mind reading the others as well. Just so much to read already on the different boards, my email and whatnot.

Anyway, thanks for the great job you do here, and keep up the great work. This page is becoming an great resource to us film music aficionados.

Would you happen to have any other plans for Moviemusic.com?

    Thanks very much.

    Regards,
    Sean Robert Abbey

Peter has MANY new and exciting plans for Moviemusic.com... it just takes time to implement them all. After all, PK isn't getting paid to do this. And because there is no MM.com-related cash flow at this point, he certainly doesn't have the funds to hire help. All will come in due time!

    PK,

I've been here and there, mostly due to erratic job changes. I've oposted when I could, and it hasn't been easy, but I've kept up with the site just the same.

I just had a thought- I'm sure you've had the same, but how about a MovieMusic.com talent showcase- composers who frequent this site could deliver samples (just a snippet, to protect their intellectual property) and have the patrons sample thier work, perhaps leading to possible exposure to guys around here who really could use it. I know I wouldn't mind it- but behind some of our patrons lurks the talented composers media may be looking for!

I'll get you an mp3, if not a .wav of 30 seconds of one of the new tracks form my upcoming disc whose title is in debate. The track, however is entitled "Hurricane." If you like it, and want to hear more- we may be able to arrange something. You should recieve that sample soon.

That's cool! I for one am grateful of the work he has put into this site. Hopefully he can start to "at the very least" make an little money off of it for the time being.

Then when the store he has mentioned is added, hopefully that will make all his effort worth it.

Either way, thanks PeterK. This is one of my favorite sites nowadays. And look forward to see what you come up with in the future.

    Regards,

    Just one point for consideration:

I rarely post, or even lurk about the other forums. The "General" board is where I go 99.99999999% of the time.

Which is fine, because I see Ford's posts at Filmtracks, the r.m.m. newsgroup, and his Soundtrack Cinema mailing list. Other links I find in the body of other message board conversations and posts.

    Sean,

Thanks for the compliments. Just to put things into perspective, what you see now on this site is just the tip of the iceberg. Tons more to come.

    Widescreen,

Yes, a new music showcase will be included in the future. I am excited to get to work on this part of the site as soon as feasibly possible. I am looking forward to hearing your music.

I also need to get the audio greetings set up for the member profile pages as it is - those should be really fun.

And then there are the email subcription lists... I have a couple different ones in mind. Are there any kind of hot lists you'd like to see? New releases list, breaking news list, MovieMusic.com news and happenings, etc etc.

All in all, I am trying to make a place that is welcoming and an added fun to the hobby we so much already enjoy.

Ford is right. And flippantly dismissing what he says about traffic levels as "naive and subjective banter" is, indeed, Not addressing his completely valid point.
I don't know who these whiners are who don't want their general topic forum soiled by a few links here & there, but I can't say I share their inexplicable, anal distaste. This IS the net after all. Might as well make good use of its inherent surfaround nature.

    DjC,

I agree. It's on its way.

    Mr. Plain,

I answered Mr. Ford's question. It's not what I hope to accomplish, it's what people here have asked for. If there's an outrage and folks demand it back, so be it. Mr. Plain, I've noticed you're new around these parts. Tell us about yourself!

That's right, I'm new around these parts. But I heard tell of this place so I thought I'd head over here and check things out for myself. I've been listening in for a little while now, before making myself heard. When you're new, it's always a good idea to listen a while before speaking, right?
Well, as can be plainly (no pun intended) seen from my member profile, not much else to tell. I'm afraid it's not my custom to talk much about myself really. I'm just your average, garden-variety ****kicker, looking for a bar to belly up to for a spell. Somewheres I can throw back a few with some others who, like me, keep hearing movie themes in their heads when riding that lonesome, dusty trail.
Other than that, the only things I can think of that might be of interest is that, one of my favorite records is my 12-inch single of Wall of Voodoo's live 1981 renditions of Morricone's spaghetti western themes. As might be expected, those sit awful well with me. (And of course, as many of us know W.O.V. vocalist Stannard Ridgway went on to a steady film music career in his own right.
Also, my favorite cues were not included in the original vinyl release of Jerome Moross' "Big Country". So now I suppose, if'n I want to get a hold of them, I'm gonna have to buy me some newfangled cd re-release? To me that smells like some money-grubbing city-slicker back East's devised a 40-year-old scheme to get more of my money, I tell you what. And you gotta know, that does Not sit well with me.
I forgot to mention: I think JJH is also right.

Honestly, I find the division of a messageboard like this into several "sub"-boards rather ridiculous.

As some of you might know by now, I'm investing hours of painstaking research to complete and expand upon my amateurish web site "Celluloid Tunes". This is something I do for myself as well as for those of you interested in film music (which is everyone), so a little attention to my site is not un-called for, now is it? For instance, once I complete my film composer link section (I've literally spent a total of DAYS completing this), which is going to be the biggest on the net (at least regarding external links), don't I "deserve" to get people to visit it? Don't I deserve to post an announcement on the "general" board, where - and let's be honest here - the traffic is much higher than on any sub-boards? Please, let me have it if I'm wrong here.

But in general, I think a proper "flow" of discussion can only be accomplished by ONE, SINGLE messageboard (although I can agree to have one separate trade/sales forum) and NOT all these subdivisions into "Just Films", "Trailer Music", "Shameless Plugs" and what-have-you. I can only use the "party" analogy again, which is very good: If you invite a bunch of film music interested friends to a party, do you say to them: "Those that wish to discuss films, will have to stay at the kitchen. And those that wish to discuss trailer music - well, please find your way to the bathroom..." No, you don't do that.

Well, you get my point. Does someone else agree?

I personally liked the "Shameless Plugs" since many of the postings made me aware of things that I otherwise wouldn't have noticed (like updates to the Soundtrackmag.com site).

It doesn't bother me. I just take a swing through and see if there is anything I want to read. I understand that it is a little more effort but not enough to make a big deal out of.

By the same token, it didn't bother me when it was in the main forum either.

If all you read is the main forum, you missing some pretty cool discussions in the "Just Movies" board.
