John Ottman hasn't been on the scene as a major composer for very long, but in the time he has been here, he has made his mark scoring small and independant films, all the while bringing to them a sense of class and intensity few film scores these days can surpass.

The Usual Suspects was his debut into the mainstream. Since then, he has composed for films that delve into the darkness of hte human psyche. Apt Pupil showcased his ability to link the innocence of youth with the inexorable evils of Nazi annihilation.

Snow White, A Tale of Terror, followed Signourney Weaver into the depths of hatred and obsession. Ottman's score for this project was infused with compassion and an understanding of the emotions all the characters wade through.

Other scores of note include Incognito, a John Badham film that allowed Ottman to score extended scenes comprised only of picture...no dialogue; Cable Guy, Halloween H2O, which was butchered by the studios, the Emmy nominated theme to Fantasy Island ( the new and now long gone revival of the classic series) and, most recently, Lake Placid, his second score for director Steve Miner.

I should also mention his rejected score to Cruel Intentions...another studio hack job performed on a fantastic score.

Now, with Ottman poised to compose the score to perhaps the biggest film of the coming summer and finally have his music heard by the masses, he has had to pull out due to scheduling conflicts with his OWN film, Urban Legend 2, which he is both directing and composing the music for.

At the very least, he has a project coming out that many people, hopefully a GREAT number of them, will get a chance to see. I'd like to hear your thoughts on his work.

    Joe

I am getting to know Ottman little by little and so far I have liked what I have heard. I have the Snow White CD and it has several good cues on it. Pretty good overall. I am anxious to hear some of his other now. Sounds like he has very good potential and future. Best, John.

Saw "Snow White" the other day. Impressive, reminded me a bit of Williams' "Jane Eyre".
